I really liked that book a lot, I read it 3x. Although I couldn't finish it the 1st time, then I took some philo/religion classes in college and it was one of my favorite books.

I learned about self-reliance (motorcycle maintenance) and about the intellectual journey one can take in trying to really define an abstract word. I often see things in my daily life that remind me of that book. I discovered that nihilism fits in very neatly with the word "quality" as well, which I'm still pondering.

The book shows us many things. It tells us that two people can converse on two levels - what they say, and what they REALLY say; and what they mean and what they REALLY mean. I found an acceptable alternative to the Schrodinger's Cat theory -

and have spent many hours contemplating it.
I thinks it's fair to say that Pirsig influenced many beyond his own generation.
