The Statler Brothers made the song "Counting Flowers on the Wall" popular in the late '70's... It was remade by Eric Heatherly, I believe around the timeframe that you're thinking of.

On the tip of my tongue but just can't recall, I am pretty sure it was a group, all brothers (3 or 4) and the one with the extremely low voice had the line "and a deck of 52"

It was a "deck of 51" in the song, but it was "flowers on the wall" by kingston trio originally and eric heatherly more recently
