TI89 is a symbolic calculator. When you divide 1 by 3, it will tell you it is 1/3 because that IS the accurate answer. 0.3333333 is an approximate. If you are to type divide 2 by 6, it will not repeat what you typed. It will simplify it and give you 1/3.

What you can do is, go to the MODE (there is a button for it) and select the Exact/Approx setting to Approx. It will now give you the approximate answer.

It easily does have some relatively cool advantageous properties on it, yet i does no longer purchase it basically for the try. i offered it final 12 months and the only element i discovered smart replaced into the equations solver - basically with the aid of fact it saved me a minute or 2. The advantageous properties on the TI-89 are basically rather smart for Calculus 3 or bigger, college physics, engineering... unlikely that can assist you plenty for calc BC. Did you're taking AB final 12 months? I did and that i basically used my calculator for about 5 questions touching directly to the calculator ALLOWED distinctive decision section, basically did 4 of the six FRQs (with the aid of fact I did #a million on the #2 section, #2 on the #3 section... #5 on the #6 section, found out this by technique of the time I have been given to extensive style 6, erased each and every thing and recopied my paintings and that i ran out of time while i ended the 4th subject) and that i've got been given a 5. so which you do no longer certainly need plenty calculator. given which you isn't allowed a calculator for fifty% of the try (and you will no longer even desire it for probable 80% of the try or greater) in basic terms get used to no longer using a calculator. in case you do have added funds to throw around, choose for it. the only reason i offered that's... nicely, same reason as you, yet somebody ended up identifying to purchase my TI-80 4 plus silver for $ninety. haha so I have been given fortunate and had sufficient funds to get it. i could propose which you employ it oftentimes for a minimum of a week till now the try just to get used to it. that's terrible to no longer understand the thank you to accomplish a little relatively ordinary stuff. you should apply it to any SAT or AP try which permits a calculator, yet you may't apply it to the ACT.
