I know a mother that is claiming this credit for a child that is not residing with her. I do not feel this is legal and would like to know how to report this fraud

I would not jump to conclusions as yet. To claim the child tax credit there are some qualifications that must be met:

--The child has to be at least 17 years of age
--U.S. citizen
--And even though the child does not live with her, if she did for at least half of the year they can still be eligible for the tax credit.

Why should it be of your concern? If she is doing illegal things, the IRS will catch up with her sooner or later.

are u a uk citizen because if you are call 0800 300 3900 tax credit helpline, they willl have it looked into by the main head office, you will need to provide them with as much info as possible name address etc, and you would be right if the children dont live with her the majority of the time regardless of the arrangement she might hav she is not entitled to claim that money , hope that helps p.s sorry if you are us and it doesnt help at all lol :-)

I would ensure (prior to reporting) that she and the other parent do not have an agreement that she can have the money. Do the kids reside with her at all?

You would report it by calling the IRS and giving them the information.
