Anything with clay... make it......let it dry.......paint it...that's two activities there. Bedroom door plaques. Cardboard and paper maiché. Cut a large rectangular piece of stiff card and then with paper maiché they write their name, let it dry and paint. They can make a desk tidy for pencils, erasers, paper clips etc... you'll need to collect lots of loo roll holders and kitchen roll holders, tin foil holders etc... Cut to different sizes... Paint them. Cut a round piece of card for the base and stick them onto it.
Good Luck and well done you for helping out at a holiday camp during the summer. :)

Do you have a leader that can work with wood?
Every one of my "as a kid craft memories" is about leaders helping me make things with wood.
I know there were other crafts with paper and cardboard, but they were very soon trashed and forgotten.

There is that framed pegboard from a vacation bible school I went to at age eight. I still have it downstairs on my shop wall with stuff hanging on it. The pegboard was cut to 16' X 24" then framed with pine cut to 1" X 3/4" and a 1/4" dado was cut in one edge to insert the pegboard. I got to cut the 45 degree angles for the corners on an old wooden miter box then put the wood around the peg board and nail the corners.
I suggest #3 Galvanized Box nails here.

Of course the recipe holders I made in cub scouts were used by Mom for years,,, Wait a minute,,, More than 40 years later she is still using one of them.
Half inch plywood. One 3" square. One 3"X3" Right triangle.
Stand the triangle up in the middle of the square.
Nail and glue it there. Use a couple #4 Galvanized Box nails.
Take a snap type clothespin apart and drill a hole in one piece then screw it to the ramp of the triangle. You want to screw down the half that has the spring. Then put the clothespin back together. You should drill a pilot hole into the plywood for the screw so the plywood doesn't split.
A little paint before the clothespin goes on makes it "pretty."

I hope this helps.
I won't even mention the rubberband guns I let boys make while I was a scout leader,,,, You do NOT want a bunch of boys running around with them. 8>))

Give them an assortment of items, for example: chairs, boxes, buckets, tires, logs, boards, ropes, etc, and let them make an obstacle course for the girls to go thru and offer a prize for the winner. They love to create things!
