Last night, when I was turning off my computer, it took longer than usual to pop up the little sign that says restart shut down...., this isn't the first time it did this. Then it takes longer than usual again to shut off. I tried turning off some of the useless programs before turning it off and it had the same result. Please help me. Thank you in advance for the help.

Put your computer through a couple of safe mode starts (F8 at bootup). That will clean little problems like that out. ~

GREETINGS, did you do alot of work or updates that it could be saving before it shuts down? Sometimes if you've done a virus update or windows update it has to save the settings and that takes longer. Have you done a memory dump lately or disk clean/defrag? Sometimes fragmented files take longer to save too. To clean your computer really well, I would recommend ccleaner aka crap cleaner, it cleans probably alot of extra stuff you didn't know you had.

If your PC used to be faster, or is acting strangely, it's probably infected with malware. Use the link below to learn more about "malware".

Then, you need to install: ONE Anti-virus (I use AVG free), ONE Firewall (Zone Alarm free), and Anti-spyware tools like: Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and cCleaner (free, I use all 5 regularly).

Google for them, install them and learn how to use them (use the Help TAB).

TIP: Last resort, back up (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) all personal data and do a Windows "Clean Install", get more info at (www.theeldergeek.com). Note: Use your included Recovery disks, if included with your PC, not a generic XP disk.

The apps above can only clean up so much.
