i lived in dallas in the 50s and 60s. the lady of the lake was a story we grew up hearing, and telling it a slumber parties. I don't believe the mansion has anything to do with the lady. here is a site if you are interested. http://www.watermelon-kid.com/places/wrl/lore/ghost.htm

Not having investigated White Rock Lake myself I am not prepared to say that it is not haunted. However, the story sounds very much like the combination of a folklore story known a La llorna (the weeping woman) and an Urban Legend knows as the Vanishing Hitchhiker (see the book of the same name by Jan Brunvand).
I would guess that the shadow in the house could be a light reflection of an actual person reflecting off of the water from the lake or something. Plus, homeless people can find shelter anywhere even chained homes but I wasn't there so you might have seen something at least unexplained.
The web site http://www.haunted-places.com list groups y state and I'm pretty sure there is a group in or near Dallas that might have more information for you.

I go there on a regular basis for paranormal investigations. Believe it or not, many of the parking lots are haunted. My ghost hunting equipment shows quite an amount of paranormal activity based on EMF readings, and other temperature changes too low to explain.
I know of two very haunted areas, that I go to. I plan on forming a ghost hunting tour there soon.
I have caught full apparitions at one of the locations, and at the other, well, I get a lot of EVP, or voices caught on recorder or ghost box.
Again, the lady of the lake, is an urban legend, that is popular. I have yet to have seen her, but there are more than one report of ghost-like creatures coming out of the lake and approaching vehicles, including a police car.
I think there is a lot of residual hauntings there: That means there had been something paranormal there, and it kind of has been absorbed into the environment and it is like a recording going on over and over.
There is a lot of intelligent hauntings there as well. You just have to know where to look. I am sure the water of the lake is a magnet to attracting the spirits there.
Actually, I have got most of my best pictures and recordings there, at the lake. It is like finding a needle in the haysack but one found, it is easy to continue to ghost hunt there, over and over.
Sorry, I will not disclose the locations as to avoid contamination of the sites...

it is not haunted and there are no alligators, no one drown and the body was not found. No one is allowed to swim in the lake. It was once a water reservoir for the city. All drowning victims have been found. There is a legend that surfaces every several years, that many years ago a young woman is walking near the lake, a couple offer her a ride, she gets in and is wet as if she was in the water. They drive a short distance and she disappears from the back seat of the car. No one remembers this, but it shows up in the paper every few years I guess when they run out of real news stories to run.

The screams and cries she hears at night coming from the area of White Rock Lake are probably those made by crime victims. That isn't the safest part of town after dark.

no it is an urban legend it is just because someone drowned there a long time ago and they never found the body probably because alligators got it but it is just a legend . Not to worry but I would not go swimming in it . good luck .
