I'm planning on going to a job interview and the receptionist mentioned "wear a business suit not a church suit."

Is there a difference with the way the coat looks between the business suit and church suit?

Business suits are more appealing to others, church suits are or tend to be more personal...not sure thats helping. Something plain and neat, not something with a special colored hankerchief or anything like that? You want to look like your selling something ( because you are selling yourself) not like your in a wedding or attending a funeral.

I've never heard of a difference. I think I would have asked her to clarify. My father is a pastor. My husband is a student pastor persuing his Master's of Divinity degree. They both have business suits that they wear for church stuff. My husband got his suit at Casual Male XL [as he's still a student, he thought one would be sufficient for now and wears business casual to work]. My father got his last two suits at S + K Men's Wear.

One of the last churches I was active in was filled with people who had suit and tie careers, or shirt, tie and jacket. I'm sure many of them wore one of their suits on Sunday that they would wear to the office the same week.

It may not be too late to phone the receptionist and ask her.

I don't know about a church suit ???? never knew there was such a thing.

Business suits are generally accepted to be darker colors i.e. grey black (not single black) and blues. These suits will normally have blended strips of sorts and could be single or double breasted. Don't wear white or light colour suit. (Maybe these are what are Church suits).

I would say they are looking for a dark suit with a conservative shirt and tie.
