There is a prison in the middle of the desert, and tags are put into the prisoners' stomachs and if they cross a certain area, the tags will explode.
There is a scene where one of the prisoners cross the area and this results in a gory explosion of his stomach. Another scene has a group of prisoners using magnets to take the bombs out.
I'm sorry if this is so vague, but it's all I remember unfortunately.

...you're talking about the 1993 sci-fi/actioner, "Fortress", directed by Stuart Gordon, and starring Christopher Lambert (of "Highlander"), Kirkwood Smith and Jeffery Combs, who worked with Gordon on some of his previous films, including "Re-Animator" (1985), "From Beyond" (1986), and two years later, "Castle Freak".

It's Fortress. I remember quite clearly that they called it "intestination" when they set off the bombs in the prisoners' guts.

Sounds like "The Running Man" w/Arnold Schwarzenegger, except the tags were around their necks.

It could be a Ray Liotta movie. I think it was called No Escape.
