well it depends on the carrier, sprint and verizon phones dont use sim cards, but att wireless and t-mobile do. Nextel is a totally diffrent technologhy called iden which does use sim cards

Edit: it doesn't matter which carrier - if the PHONE requires a sim card, you can't use the phone without it. And no one can call in. The sim card is basically what makes the phone work. (Liken it to a computer chip) You may be able to call 911, but that's it.

You can turn it on, I believe, but you cannot make any phone calls. Phones that require SIM cards require them to provide all the network information.

I'm a nextel employee, and absolutely NOT if it's a Nextel phone. It's like trying to start a car with no engine. It's impossible. 'IDEN' based phones, or Nextel phones all have sim cards, so you will need one to use the service. :)

No it won't work cuz it needs the info on the sims card so that you can get to your phone number and other info. on it.
