Well, when a person verbalizes his thoughts to another, they communicate a lot by body language, eye contact, facial expressions, a voice, Also there is no, physical contact, no hugs, no kiss. to On-line relationships, And it is easy to effect a totally different personality , then what one has when all you have is the written word. Yes! We are being hurt, and missing out on meaningful relationships. To sum it up, it's like settling for a fantasy rather then real life.

for all of the reasons that you mentioned, yes we are losing that ability as a whole. for many people, all they do is text message, email, work online and do chores online. when those people go out into society, they have no clue how to act or react to others.
it's their choice to stay in and disconnected, so there's nobody to blame but themselves.
society won't "hurt", but it will continue to become less personal. picture the world as a giant dmv.

I have often wondered about this myself. I have found that when I sit down to type, or write, I think a great deal more clearly than when I sit down to talk face to face. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
