I will be in Boston this weekend, and outside of going to a Red Sox game I don't know what else to do. I don't want to do all the "touristy" stuff. I want a real, true Boston experience. Help!

There are so many great places to go in Boston, but here are a few good choices:

Harvard Sq. has a lot of stores, restaurants and a little movie theater the best place to eat there is Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage.

Back Bay is "the place to shop." There is Newbury st., which has high end designer stores, boutiques, art galleries, and expensive dining (mostly overrated restaurants) etc. It also has J.P. Licks, which is the best homemade ice cream in Boston. Boylston St. is parallel to Newbury St. and it has more good shopping and lots of bars, pubs and restaurants. The Pour House is a great bar/pub with really cheap food. I love the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and my Boyfriend always chooses the Chimichanga. They also have an excellent weekend breakfast/brunch. Back Bay has another shopping area, The Prudential Center and Copley Plaza. Everyone raves about the food at Legal Seafood there is one in The Prudential Center, but I recommend going to the waterfront location on State St., which is in Quincy Market.

The North End is a must. I prefer going there in the evening since there isn't much to do there besides walk around see The Old North Church and eat. Most people would say to go to Giacomo's, but I don't think it's worth the long wait. I personally love Mother Anna's and have been going there for many years. They also have outside dining, which has a nice view of the city. If you don't like Italian there is a Chinese/Sushi place Billy Tse's. Modern Pastry or Mike's Pastry are both great for dessert.

If you are still up for more shopping there is Downtown Crossing, which is like a big outdoors mall. I don't recommend eating there. Get there early though because everything pretty much shuts down at 7-8pm.

The Fenway (near the ball park) has a lot of Bars, American Food (Beer Works has decent food and a large selection of ... Beer), Pool Halls and a large Movie Theater. The best place to go there is Jillian's. It has pool, Bowling, Night Club, Bar, Food, Arcades, etc.

There are so many other places to name. The South End is an extremely pretty neighborhood with lots of Boutiques, Cafes, Galleries. If you want to go clubbing with College Students go to Allston Village (it is right in betwen BC and BU on the Green Line, the B train). It has tons of Bars and a lot of Pubs. It has Big City, which has live music, a billiard, food and a large selection of Beer. Then there is Coolidge Corner in Brookline (On the Green Line, C train.) Has a little movie theater and a lot of shops. J.P. Licks is also there, the best pizza place, Upper Crust and Anna's Taqueria has great and cheap Mexican food.

Whatever you do ... don't take a Duck Tour!

The touristy stuff is fun! but you can have a great time just by walking around the city. Walk down Newbury Street, in Boston Common & the Public Garden, and poke around Faneuil Hall. go for a walk down the charles river esplanade and maybe you'll also get to see some live music at the Hatch Shell. Locals do all this stuff too (but you will see lots of tourists). If you like bars then the North Station area is fun too.
have a great time!

Like what, sitting in traffic?

Go to the North End, "Hanover Street". Find someplace to eat dinner. I'd recommend Dolce Vita, Daily Catch (for seafood), or Giacomo's. For any of these you will be standing outside on the sidewalk waiting for .........long time. They don't take no reservations, for Giacomo's and Daily Catch they only have a few tables. You get to hang out on the street and people watch.

Get your Italian pastry's at Modern Bakery (near Dolce Vita), again a line on the sidewalk. What's up with the lines? Best cannoli in Boston.

Alternative, eat at Durgin Park and be abused by some smart *** waitress popping her gum.

Drink at the Black Rose.

In Boston, we eat, drink, love the Red Sox, drink, curse the Red Sox, drink, love Tom Brady, drink, whine about Manny, drink, sit in traffic, drink, hate the Yankees, drink....

Boston has a lot to do. If you haven't done a Duck Tour, put on you tourist cap and just do it. It''s really kind of fun. You can visit Boston Public Gardens or hang out on the waterfront.
Riding the "T" is a must and can get you most anywhere in the city.

Go for a drive in the Big Dig during rush hour and hope you make it out... other than that, the only other thing i would suggest is to go to a bar that is in one of the surrounding neighborhoods: South End, Jamaica Plain, Brighton, Cambridge.

Do the freedom Trail. Its that red line that you see on the sidewalks. I am not sure where it begins but its an interesting walk and gives you other things to see while you are walking along :)
