I need to move my wireless router and modem 85 feet into another room and need to buy cable. My really OLD computer to router cable is 568 A/B, my new DSL to (really old) Modem is 568 A.

Both of the above answers are incorrect. The first one is on the right track. The second one is clueless.

The difference is the sequencing of the wires at the terminal connector or punchdown strip. If both ends are the same spec, it's a "straight through" cable. If the ends are different, it's a crossover cable.

It often does matter which one you use. Some modern switches and routers do "Auto MDX" but not all do. With an Auto MDX port you can use either straight through or crossover. If the port is not Auto MDX you must use the proper cable depending upon what you are connecting to the port.

it doesnt matter, the port on the router will auto sense the type of cable. any cable that you buy from walmart or radio shack will work. its more likely that you will find B type. the A type is a crossover cable design to connecto to computers together, but since your router comes with a built in switch, the switch will adjust to whatever type of connection.
