The Bush Administration and the media have done a good job of diverting attention from the war.
From the immigration amnesty (which will never pass during the Bush Administration) to the problems with Paris Hilton, steroids in baseball and the Albanian trip with Bush's declaration that he will free Kosovo; the American people's focus is so spread that Iraq is just another issue on the shelf.
In the meantime, May 2007 saw some of the highest American casualties during the occupation.
You are right; if people do not organize and participate in protests against the war, and make that their focus, the Bush Administration will continue to "stay the course" in Iraq.

Japan in the early 1940s said it best. The United States is a country of playboys that has been spoiled. They gave us a grave reality check that AMERICAN IDOL or SURVIVOR or the BACHLOR could never give. We need to get our heads out of our butts ASAP or we will be a country no more, and I am not just talking about the War in Iraq.
It is sad that a 20 year old living in the US has to know more about how our government works than our high school grads do. It is sad that so many people in the US can't even tell you how many congressmen and senators there are let alone tell you where the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans OR Mexico and Canada are located on a map. Why would these spoiled brats care, after all their mommies and daddies give them just about everything what they want, AND American TV is getting dumber and dumber, and the news is being influenced more and more by pansy anti war liberals.
We have done so much good in Iraq, building schools, protecting the Iraqi people, and building the stepping stones for a better future for them. If people think that we are only doing bad stuff there, then they need to learn how to read the book from both ends (MEANING read both sides of the pages not just the front). If you think that we are only doing bad things there then you are the stupid idiots that think that guns kill people ... Ah helllloooooooo, like you know, people kill people, and fer shure guns are like you know the means. If you still think that I am wrong then you are the ones that would believe that everybody is smart, and the pencil is the fault for a 1st grader getting 1+1 wrong in his math test.

News reports what sells. If people stopped caring about Paris Hilton then they would report something else. Unfortunately, there is still a market for Paris gossip.
War is depressing and requires a bit of work by the listening/viewer to develop an opinion. The US is a lazy country when it comes to truth seeking.

Because many people in America are products of a public school system which brainwashed them into not questioning
authourity. Thats why after the Vietnam protests they decided to dumb down American society. They had the best weapon possible. Television. Want to know why Paris is so popular.
Television and pop culture.
But if you don't believe the dumbing down. Just look at the test scores for our high schools post Vietnam.
When I took the SAT they didn't give you like 300 points out of the gate.

This is ridiculous diatribe. You haven't had your particular interest publicized as much as you'd like and so your selfish attitude focuses on rebuttal of the populace. What kind of egotistical monster would pose a question of this caliber? You should be ashamed to accuse no one of caring about this debacle in the Middle East. How dare you offer a verbal accusation that undermines the conscience of America.

Because in this country, most women (especially the bleached blonde and the brunettes with the tiny short shorts) are continually shopping at malls in America. If you don't believe me, take a trip.
People spend money all the time in this country.
The question is, why should we even bother supporting the troops. Who cares.

ppl don't care because there is no draft.
iraq is a country that most ppl can't find on a map and much less give a damn about. in addition, a lot of them think that iraq does have WMDs hidden around (uh... where?). essentially, everyone thinks that pulling out is a bad idea, but there is no plan to survive staying in... ppl are just waiting for someone with a good idea to appear from oblivion and lead them to victory. don't hold your breath...

because no one has skin in the game that didn't volunteer.
in the vietnam era, young men were taken in the prime of their lives and sent across the world to a nation that didn't present the least threat to the usa and lead in the most horrible and corrupt manner imagineable.
in iraq, young men and women are taken in the prime of their lives and sent across the world to die in some foreign nation that never threatened the usa and lead in an even more corrupt and horrible manner - only all of the troops did volunteer...
