Not sure what it would take to be a astronaut in other countries but for the US you have to be selected from NASA. Anyone can apply but they only select people that fit in 3 categories. Teachers, Scientists and Pilots. They also look for quality work experience and or quality college. They look for at least 3 years work experience and or college degree. If you are a pilot they are looking for a couple thousand hours and prefer a "test pilot". Vision has to be alright uncorrected. About 100/20. The most important thing though is that if this what you want to do you have to stand out in NASA's minds. I mean you are going to go up against people that have multiple graduate degrees, tons of work experience and so much flight time it almost seems impossible. The best way to get started is to go to college and make sure that the astronaut field is something that you want to continue to work in.

but you don't want to be a astronaut cores you get put no a list.
for NASA the list is about 36 people and at the rate of 2 launches a year and 6 people on each launch you would probably die of stress witch is a common thing on the list.

It'll cost you the price of a college degree.
