I hate that word. It makes me feel guilty for being myself and doing things the way I want to do them - whether "normal" or not.
If we were all "normal" then there would be no room for improvement, no 'thinking outside the box'. Genius would not exist, our lives would fall apart. Those who dare to be different are the ones who go the furthest in life.
Normal is relative to the group which is being compared. It is the average/middle for that group. If you fall either side of the spectrum, then you are considered abnormal. If you fall at the ends of the spectrum then you are extreme.
Insanity would be an extreme. If you are insane then you are not thinking logically/rationally. We all have our moments from time to time. If it becomes a permenant state of mind or you start harming yourself and others then its a problem.
Everyone has aspects of themselves which doesn't fit in with society. That's what makes us human. I wouldn't class someone as insane if they weren't normal, I'd class them as an individual.

there is no "normal" who decides what normal is?
Hitler tried to decide what was normal and should be accepted.. that didn't went to well did it?
yes i guess we are all a bit insane and not really after all.
but hey what is it to be insane? you can call a mass murderer insane but most of the time these are rather depressed/mad than insane.
in my eyes being insane is when you try to decide what is sane and insane.
we are not all alike. we should learn to accept each other as we are. there is people who are mentally sick but most is actually turned insane.
if you get treated like a freak you will become one.
if we started to care more for each other instead of pinning them down the world would might have looked brighter.
when you go by someone at the street and think "what a weirdo" try think what you would have thought if you where him. maybe he thinks your weird as well.

We all are a little crazy, or insane in your words, at times, but heavily crazy all the time. In fact, the only thing that saves us from being classified as completely and utter nuts are the people around us that we find and that we know are nearly as crazy as ourselves. This is exactly the reason that wherever we go, first and foremost, we try to find friends among aliens, among people who we know are not mad the way we are, but rest assured we should be as they certainly are.
The only sanity in human condition then comes with the presence of our animosities and oppositions in life. None of our friends, if not affectionately, would ever tell us or would try to tell us that we are crazy even when we might very well be. But our enemies, our enemies would leave no stone unturned, they will do anything they could to make us believe that we are in fact crazy, or we are about to be so.
What for instance then is the reason behind the matters of the world at large. Aren’t the thoughts of our ultimate destruction through our own hands driving us all made in panic? If possibilities of meteorite hit the earth won’t stir up maddening panic then the issues of global warming would do the trick. We know that one day we are going to die, so what’s the big deal? The fact is that we are not afraid really; we just want to enjoy the panic of the thoughts of death in a big and collective way. We use whatsoever methods we could to ensure that we have plenty of supply of our reasons to think, act and live like crazy people. However, these pseudo-factual idiosyncrasies of mine should lead you into believing that all is as dark and bleak in human nature as I have portrayed so far. There are many good aspects of craziness about human nature; they are on the loose too.
We for instance, live and wonder what we are, who we are, what is the meaning of our this, what is the purpose and where we have come from, where we are going? All questions that we cannot live without, and yet we find no answers. Many of us believe that there aren’t any - as far as our present state of knowledge is concerned. But do we ever stop asking these crazy but important questions? Never! We would never give up madcap sense of our ages old wonder and amazement about all things that make an error of coming into the scope of our keenish observation.
And then last but not least, we fall in love. And this is craziness entire, extreme, and absolute, renowned to be so the world over. We get hurt many times trying to fall in love, trying to get out of love, and then trying to stay in love. It is all hurts with a little in the name of happiness or pleasure. But love we must, as we do. We would ever stop loving does not matter how much it hurts. We are crazy; this is true, as if we would be nothing if we were not.

I don't think we can make an accurate judgement on whats normal or insane. If I said 'I hate cheese' then one may find my opinion insane, and another may find it perfectly normal. It really does depend on your interpretation of 'normal' and 'insane'.

I would agree. Being completely sane is a form of insanity in itself in my opinion. How can you live in a world full of suffering and embedded with so much more mystery than knowledgable information, but yet you stay completely sane? That's insane to me.

no one person can be normal, for starters no one is normal (or average) on the basis that no one has the average number of limbs as it won't be 4 due to the fact that people have had amputations and the like! Normal is whatever you decide it to be!

'Normality' is relative. You have to compare the person's behavior to a set of standards a group of people believe as 'normal' behavior, and then decide whether he belongs to that group or not. If not, then he is abnormal to them.
A crazy person among lunatics is normal, isn't he?

Psychologists decide what is normal. To be normal, you need to be like them and we all know they're insane.
