"Hey lovely weather today, don't you think?". That can't be it. That's just small talk, so what is "casual conversation"?

Casual conversation is "Convo Light". You know....5 calories or less. :)

Casual conversation is expanding on topics that are really indeed frivolous.

Nothing like, "So, my mom died yesterday and I just don't know how to deal. That is 'heavy conversation".

Something on the lines of, "So, I bought this great little dress. Do you think I should wear it or the black number to the party"?

That is moreso convo of a casual nature.

Business casual means you don't have to wear a suit or even a cocktail dress. Like a pair of dress pants or a skirt with a nice shirt would be fine.

Well casually speaking, it is lovely weather today isn't it.

The key is you have to label it. Or it is like you said , just small talk.
