Not everyone has had an easy life, that is the way society is. Tell your friend that you are sorry that if he lived a hard life in a ghetto or poor you are sorry, and then polietly tell him, that you did not choose your social status as a child, your parents did. If he is jealous or not happy with his situation, then he and only he has the power to change by trying to better himself. I hope I was reading the quesion correctly.
P.S. next time he uses a white racial slur towards you tell him his heart must be blacker than coal---anger is not the way to better oneself.

No, it's not racist (but is offensive to others), secondly you should be offended, thirdly, yes, confront him and tell him that living in the ghetto doesn't make you Black, it makes you poor . are there a lot of Black folks in the ghetto?yep, is there a culture within the ghetto? yes. but living in the ghetto doesn't make you Black, tell him that. Assert that you understand that there is a culture within the Black ghetto, but that actually living in the ghetto doesn't make you Black. Usually when someone of your own kind says that to you, they usually feel as if you are trying to remove yourself from African American/Black associations on all levels
Being Black has to do with loving yourself first and loving your own pple, helping your own pple and appreciating your culture and your pple.
Another interpretation could be (of his comment that is) is that if you were explicitly raised or socialized specifically within White culture and you just have no clue about Black culture. you know the ones who don't know what braids are, or the ones who don't know what soul food is etc..he could view that as being WHITER than Sour cream, in other words, culturally you are viwed as having WHITE cultural perspectives, too White to be considreed Black, another term is called OREO. Now if you were reaised in the ghetto or even middle class or upper (sometimes)
you will know what that means.
just tell brotha what's up, and let him know that you are proud to be who you are and that poverty doesn't define your association with Black pple.
keep it real tho' OK!

Just because you have never lived in the ghetto does not take away from your ethnicity... Try to not let the ignorant dumb @ss bother you. Be proud of who you are (which it sounds like you are) and just ignore him.
Living in the ghetto has nothing to do with being black... and it does not make you more or less black.
What a dumb sh!t.
Sullen_girl_88,
What the hell are you talking about? Do do not even know this girl and you are b!tching her out for some bullsh!t you know nothing about. Do you have a point to your statements or are you just a rambling idiot?

That's just stupid and retarded. It sounds like he is joking. I think you just feel obligated to be offended. While you actually like that he said you were whiter than sour cream.Since you probably think that makes you superior well it doesn't.It makes you a closed minded idiot. With no self perception to the world around you.All you do is buy into all the trash the media throws at you.So stop obsessing over your supposed superiority to other blacks since you are "whiter than sour cream."

He was being derogatory when he said that.. He sounds immature.. Your not cool because you are not from the ghetto.. ?? ANd the sh^t about the sourcream.. He is just a jerk. I wouldn't even bother talking to the guy. You can't win an argument with somebody like that. He is ignorant. His point is,, that he has had it harder than you,, etc. seriously. Don't engage him.

Sounds like he just needs an education. Being dark black doesn't make you any more African American then being light complected. In addition if he feels that the best locale that defines his race is the ghetto, than he's clearly a mis-guided youth.

I think society in general needs to quit finding reasons to be offended and take things more light heartedly. Laughing feels better than being pissed off anyway.

Uh-yeah that's offensive. Racism of ANY kind is. I certainly call people on the carpet when they make ***..., Sp.., Fa., etc. comments.
You should have called him on the carpet about it at the time, but better late then never.
