Can I use a nokia phone, made for tmobile or cingular, with my sprint service?

People tell me that i will need to get it unlocked b/c i don't have a chip or something, how much does it cost to get a phone unlocked?

no 2 diffrent technologies t-mobile and att wireless use gsm and sprint n verizon use cdma which does not use sim cards
