Goto Sony Vaio online support website and then check and see if there are any known issues regarding update.exe with your model of laptop.

Update.exe is the windows installer that takes care of the automatic windows updates. But I found the following information too:

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/update/

Regarding the MS Word problem please refer to the following Microsoft support article:

Here's what I would do:

Start > Search > For Files And Folders and run a search for update.exe. If it finds one, delete it. Viola! Problem no more.

Or try this:

Start > Run > type in MSCONFIG then hit Run. Click the Startup tab and uncheck anything that says update.exe or looks like it could be something from Sony VAIO.

Not so simple answer, find out why you are getting the error messages.

Simple answer:

If your PC used to be faster, or is acting strangely, it's probably infected with malware. Use the link below to learn more about "malware".

Then, you need to install: ONE Anti-virus (I use AVG free), ONE Firewall (Zone Alarm free), and Anti-spyware tools like: Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and cCleaner (free, use all 5 regularly).

Google for them, install them and learn how to use them (use Help TAB).

TIP: Last resort, back up (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) all personal data and do a Windows "Clean Install", get more info at (www.theeldergeek.com). The apps above can only clean up so much.

You can go to www.eset.com and download the free trial anti virus....it is a good one.
I would also suggest you turn off your win update exe, as there probably isn't a better way to fill your system full of crap from MS (other than security updates).
Having done both of these and things aren't as you would like them, I suggest you reformat. ....we all have to do this (or should) as it is the ultimate cleaning solution and anyone using a pc, should learn how to do it.

Try running error checking.

Path: start>my computer>C:>properties>tools.

First run it without ticking any boxes - if I'm right it should fail.

If it fails tick only the bottom box & run it after tick only the top box & run it.
