No Child Left Behind Act Is Working/NCLB Benefits Children, Empowers Parents, Supports Teachers and Strengthens schools. Its much the tests. Its the real deal.
Accountability laws for schools have a dramatic imrovement in teacher performance, and development, teachers have to worker harder to meet the higher goals, schools have the tools now the funding and the programs.....to meet the success of ALL students.
Ask almost any school administrator, education policymaker or think-tank wonk about NCLB, and you're guaranteed to get at least one sunny metaphor about how the law opened a window, raised a curtain or otherwise illuminated the plight of the nation's underserved kids.
"At the end of the day, who can argue with holding schools accountable for all children?" "Who can argue with not tolerating failing schools or with giving poor kids the kinds of choices that wealthier kids have.

accountability laws have done nothing but screw up schools......the bureaucracy is astounding......they label and drug children more and push kids through faster than before because now their funding is attached to it.....

Complete failure.
As far as NCLB, read the article attached.
The death penalty should be abolished. It doesn't work and puts America in the same league as Iran, Iraq, China, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan and Sudan, to name a few. Real progressive counties we hang with.
Really in 6 years what has Bush accomplished other than the Do Not Call legislation?

Education is very important indeed. Some people suffer from one of three (3) things... they either have selective memories, short memories, or convenient amnesia. Look at the failures, Iraq, Katrina, Rita, Walter Reed, Abu Ghraib, Guantanomo, Gonzales, Tillman, and so on. I'm not educated enough to actually know the rest of it. Maybe you are... but I suspect you suffer from of one of the three. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is an unfunded mandate, and America would be better if Republicans didn't prioritize on the cheap...e.g. Iraq, Katrina, Rita, Walter Reed, NCLB...!!!

ummm, well.... its pretty much universally accepted by both "sides" of the aisle that NCLB was a "good idea" that wasnt implemented with any degree of common sense. Many believe there are ideas that are worth salvaging, but the iron hammer method with which is was employed caused a lot more harm than good.
In answer to your question, it's a fact.
Death penalty? What are you talking about? He's a success at killing people? Are you on prescribed cough syrup?

It's an opinion, backed up by a staggering amount of facts. He inherited from Bill Clinton a country that was better off at home, and more respected around the world, than it had ever been; and in six years -- really, in four -- turned into an economic mess (for all but the very rich) and a despised nation in a war of choice, which only he claims to have the right to choose to end and thus chooses not to.
I firmly believe that, once he is out of office, the very fact that he is gone will raise many countries' opinion of us, which will make things easier for his successor. But that person may just need two full terms to clean up the gargantuan mess he made.

There is no way he can salvage his miserable time in office.
He may get some brownie points for his leadership on 9/11 and how he handled the economy -depending on your school of thought- I personally think he's screwed us all.
But that's it. That's the extent of anything possibly positive about George W. Bush. He has squandered his term, darkened the US name and reputation and killed thousands unnecessarily and as a previous respondent has pointed out, Osama still lives.

How many facts does one need to recognize what a utter and total failure George W. Bush is?
His history is already set in stone.
Worst president ever in U.S. history.
Deny the facts to your hearts content, folks. Reality has a powerful way of sobering even the most drunken perception.

It all depends on what your standard for failure is. It will never be a fact always and opinion. Some who support Bush will point to No Child Left Behind, the creation of Homeland Security and the condensing of several national security agencies under one banner removing red tape and streamlinging everything. Those who want to say he is a failure will point to Iraq, the war on terror (although we haven't been attracked since 9/11) alleged wrong doing.
I feel he is not a failure, but not a total sucess, he is one of those presidents who will be forgotten in the future, think LBJ, Ford, Wilson, ect.

It is merely an opinion. Most of the people on here don't have the kind of intelligence it requires to have a good opinion of the situation. They usually spout exactly what someone told them because they are incapable of making any kind of original or genuine thought on their own.
See opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and most of them stink. Most people who call President Bush a failure concentrate only on the ugly sides of his presidency, which there have been more than few. But there are also good things he has done as President that tend to get overlooked because of the bone-headed stuff. One day in 15-20, 50 years we'll look back and be much better equipped to decide how Bush's presidency affected the nation and the world. Thanks and have a nice day.

You are sadly misinformed. No Child Left Behind has totaled the education system. Believe what you want however.
