I know the question seems biased and judgemental and that is not the intent. Neither term or ideology is 'right' or 'wrong'.

I was just thinking about the arguments both parties use and I have distilled the rhetoric into two basic themes: 'me or we' with Dems=we & Reps=me.

Do those terms define the identities of both parties at their respective cores?

Obviously, it does oversimplify. Both parties are complex coalitions built around a range of positions.

Still, as a very terse description of their differences, it would be hard to get much more accurate than that.

I hate the dems but the only thing I can think of that I hate even more is the reps. They both suck. I vote the dems because they suck a little less right now.

I love this country but our politics will destroy us.

dems=cooperate puppets that will at least mask a little to help the people.

reps=cooperate puppets that don't even hide it. Big oil and big business has their hand up our buts pulling the strings.

Abortion for example. Most guys that I knew were against it until their daughter came home pregnant. What hypocrites. So I don't believe anyone of them when they back an issue.

There is a big difference because lazy doesn't necessarily equal carelessness, whereas if you are unhappy you are likely to not care about anything else but your own problems. Lazy people can care about cleaning their room, but they don't feel a threat if they don't clean it. An unhappy person won't care about cleaning their room, and therefore never will clean it until they feel better emotionally. Relationship-wise also applies to this because unhappy people are just not motivated for improvement, where lazy people are just looking for a reason to not do something. On the other side, lazy and unhappiness can correlate, but I gave you the contrast.

I think that is oversimplifying things. I think both sides care about the "we", but just have different ideas of how to help Americans. There are extreme people on either side. There are Democrats that think we should be socialist and there are Republicans who think nobody should be helped by the govt. Both of these beliefs are flawed, but most people fall somewhere in the middle.

there is only 1 way in which you can use "Me" & "we" when comparing the two parties, and it comes to personal accountability.

if you make Dems "We", that's fine. but it can only be used in the sense of "WE (Govt) can take better care of you than you can. WE (govt) can spend your tax dollars better tahn you can. WE (govt) can provide better social services than you can. WE (govt) don't think that you should be allowed to succeed on your own, unless everyone succeeds".

if the Rebubs are "Me", thats fine to. "ME (the individual person) am accountable for my actions. ME (Individual) know whats best for me and my family. ME (Individual) can make responsible fiscal decisions with my tax money. ME (individual) will help make this nation profitable and prosperous with my entreprenurial spirit".

it comes to accountability in Me vs. We. for the Repubs, the poeple are held accountable for their actions. for the Dems, society is to blame for everything. people are devoid of accountability.

No, not really.

Trying to pigeon-hole individuals into each of those slots would be impossible.

For some issues, you may have a "me" mentality and others you may have a "we" mentality.

I think when people buy into the propaganda that Democrats are always thinking in a "we" mentality and Republicans are always thinking in a "me" mentality, it shows short-sightedness.

That's part of it, but it isn't ALL of it. I think the repubs do not want to share their good fortune with anybody especially someone that cannot help themselves. The dems think they should always be given a break. Who knows, really?

No, they are both out for themselves ("me"). Dems just have better PR.

No. Take abortion. The only reason to be pro-choice is because you want a woman, who could have easily closed her legs in the first place, to kill her child just because it is inconvenient.

That is the very definition of "greedy"

Reps = less government dependency

Dems = more government dependency

That's how I see it. If that means 'we or me', so be it.
