The British isles were together with Bretagne in France and Scandinavia the last safe places for the picts and celts and other ancient cultures escaping romanization. Other pagan magical cults were destoyed or subjugated by the roman empire which later became Christianized, which led to the end of many spirtual traditions. Most of western Europe then suffered from further purges which killed of spiritual bloodlines and ultimately led to the retreat of spirits who enjoy spiritual interaction with man. Scandinavia later became very strongly christian, which also led to a bleeding to death of other beliefs. Only the British isles (more specifically Ireland, Wales and Scotland, but to a lesser degree England too), Bretagne and eastern europe were spared this destruction.

Since they are the only regions which still have strong bloodlines, spiritual support from the otherworld and ancient knowledge and powers carried forward from it's ancient source into modern times they are naturally exceptional compared to the barren wasteland created by the romans and western christianity's persecutions of pagans, heathens and heretics.

I would therefore not say they are obsessed, but rather they have not lost their magic is as others have.

Probably because the U.K. has a long history that is steeped in folklore and magic. People are always fascinated by tales of magic and legends. It's the same in other countries that have a rich history of myths and legends whether in Europe or in Asia. Young countries like the U.S. unfortunately do not have a deep enough history(it was only formed in the 1700s) so they really can't claim much in terms of ancient myths and legends except tales of Salem witches and the supernatural beliefs of the native American Indians. What they have an abundance of however, are urban myths and legends which are just as popular and make up for their lack of a magical history.

England has a long history of Magic. Thousands of yeas of people doing magic isn't just going to disapear. It is a part of our culture and I guess the Rennaisance people found it interesting. England was origionally a Pagan country so it's our heritage I guess :)

I guess b/c they've been around so long. The Chinese also believe in ghosts, dragons and came up with different religions and odd-ball theories of where 'divine' people came from (Like being born from a lotus flower-Buddha)Also, maybe b/c of their environment? (Back to England-the UK)It is rainy and/or foggy so any human could have 'seen' something and mistaken it for another being. For instance, someone walking along the forest at night could mistake a large lizard for a supernatural beast and as time passed, it became a large fire-breathing lizard creature. Or, one person could learn a trick you might not be aware of and. through time and story-telling, that person turns into a magician
One theory I've heard is that cultures who's roots are ancient, may have passed down stories of creatures that may have existed thousands of years ago but are extinct now.

England didn't "make up" anything about dragons and wizards. You have to understand that EVERY culture throughout the world has stories, legends and myths of dragons, magic and wizards. Many of whom had their traditions LONG before intermingling with any other cultures (such as the native americans, the aztecs, and mayans). I don't think its entirely fair to put this just on england.
