Nope. All that garbage about the baby's feet needing support is just propaganda by the shoe companies. How do kids in countries with no shoes learn how to walk?
My mom dressed all of us in high-top white leather baby shoes, and we all have weak ankles.
I let my kids learn barefoot, and they actually walked sooner than their cousins, and are the best athletes.

Barefoot is best. Little Robbies are good for feet protection and they are soft. When the child is older you can put on shoes for protection. Stride rites are fine, but they can be a bit more expensive. My daughter first shoes were a pair of converse which she started wearing at 1 and she learned to walk at 10 months barefoot. She now is an 18 month old runner!!

They don't help the child walk, they help balance the legs with the ankles. I've heard some pediatricians say that sneakers will work just the same, but babies can learn how to walk barefoot the fastest. Stride rite is a good brand though. I've used them for all of my children.

I was told that it is best to keep your baby barefoot as long as possible and only use shoes for protection. This is what I did and my baby started walking at 10 months. I only put shoes on her when we are going somewhere that she will be getting down and walking and may hurt herself without shoes. Hope this helps.

I believe they do. Not help them walk, but gives the proper support.
Both my boys first pair was Stride Right.

Something with the construction and quality of the shoe that gives better support for a new walker.

My pediatrician had said that any hard soled shoe (not necessarily Stride-Rite) can help with the stability of walking. She also said that it's a marketing gimmick that they used to hold on to, but many other stores (like walmart, payless, etc) now make hard soled, reinforced shoes for toddlers.

No shoes help a baby learn to walk. Most in fact hinder them by not letting their feet do what their feet are meant to do. If you want shoes on your baby the best to use are teh entirely soft type-from soles to top they are soft.

No, not at all barefoot has been proven to be best for developing proper walking, and proper arches. For when your baby must wear shoes (ie somewhere barefoot is dangerous) the best shoe is the one that is closest to barefoot.

My grandmother is always telling me to get my one year old those. I don't even know where to buy them but I heard they were some what expensive. Babies grow out of shoes so quickly. But, I do hear that they help.
