yes, it is a necessity here. (alaska... I would not think of going for a walk without one nearby in certain areas.)
think bears, moose, coyotes, etc. All can kill humans or their furry companions in a heartbeat.
Hey thumbs downer.... want to come up for a fishing trip? LOVE to see how you'd feel about guns when the grizzlies show up! Listen, my friend and his mom were killed on a jogging path right outside of town by a grizzly. When I lived in the lower 48, I carried one for rabies protection. Just because you are a coddled city person who feels there is no need for them anymore, you need to realize that some of us still need them for protection as we have no illusions as to our spot in the food web. We could easily become the consumed part of it in a flash! Honestly, I'm less wary of a grizzly than I am of some of your cities. Human on human violence here is rare, and as long as you are careful there is little to no call to shoot anything unless you are going to eat it. No, take that back, if I shot any animal (except human), even in self defense, I would eat it. You? Vegan or Carnivore hypocrite?

I don't have one either. Yes, it is dangerous. I fully agree. At first i thought of having one just in case something happened, but I thought about it and if I had children or things went bad...the gun could end up in the wrong hands.

Just the statistics of how many more people get shot that are close to guns is enough to keep them away from anyone intelligent. If I ever felt that I needed one I would radically change my life into a life where I didn't need a gun.

Yes. I have 3. One .45 Baretta handgun, a 300 win mag rifle and a 12 ga. shotgun with a slug barell. The first is for personal protection and the shotgun and rifle are for hunting.
I keep them unloaded and locked in a large gun safe.

Hell yeah! Several.. all adults in my house, no kids. But even as a kid I was taught respect for it, how to handle one and how to shoot.

It's not dangerous, its only a tool. I can kill someone just as easy with an axe, shovel, knife, hatchet, ice pick or baseball bat. People are Danderous! Its the live one you gotta watch out for.

yes, four of them. member NRA. it is our right and responsibility to own guns, learn gun safety, and enjoy them. owning a gun is not dangerous if you know how to use it, and when...... why would it be dangerous just to have a gun in your house?they don't run around by themselves, do they?
