I have always desired to have self-employed someday. Whenever I see people who are self-employed, I become more inspired everytime. For any of you who are self-employed, how did you get your start in the business? Did any of you start off working for someone else then later on progressed into having your own business? How is your business going now that you call the shots?

It's always best to know something about the business you are interested in starting. I worked and learned the business from a mentor for about a year. Then I started my own. It's definitely a risk, but well worth it if you are motivated and willing to work hard. Nothing beats being your own boss. Go for it!!

Yes, I am self employed. I started with my own business while still working full time. As the business grew I was able to commit more time to it and work from home. If you want more information send me a e-mail directly. I can't give more information here because of guideline policies.

Self employment has it's benefits, but also its troubles. There are two parts, doing the work and doing the business. Before you start your own business you need to know one part dead on and have a really good idea of the other part. The other thing to remember is that instead of a single boss to make your life heck, you will have many customers to make your life heck.

I have a consulting business. I got my start when my former employer (a consulting firm) decided not to take on a big project ... I went to the client and did it myself. It's going very well. Very profitable. I have a business partner. We have no employees, but use several sub-contractors.
