I don't think that it's too young. I know of plenty of people who have gotten them done at that age.But don't get your expectations up b/c the pictures may not turn out how you expect. I took my daughter to get her first professional pics when she was 2 months and she cried through the whole thing, so that kinda bummed me out a little bit but I still have the pics and I can tell her how she threw a fit the whole time =)
If you're taking her to a studio they should know how to deal with babies at that age. Maybe you could get some nice shots of you w/ the baby, or those cute ones they do of the baby sleeping.
Good luck

The whole don't use flash thing is bogus. Think about it. The use a big bright flash @ the hospital when they take baby's FIRST picture and the baby is no more than a couple days old. Of course if it scares yor baby then you don't want to do that, but as for it being bad, they used it on my daughter and she's fine.
Getting the baby's pics @ 2wks would be sweet. It's the memories that count not whether they pose or are awake. I think your best bet is a portrait study if you can afford it. They will take pics up close of they baby's hands, feet, eyes, etc. Then you can have it put all together to make a collage.
Good luck. I hope they turn out great if you go.

I would wait until baby is a tad older. Personally I think the best time for a professional photo session with a baby is about the 1 year mark, they are all gorgeous and pudgy at that stage they can be cajoled into smiling, etc. and tend find the experience an adventure. Do take all the pics you can stand at home, I have a fab pic of my first baby at 2 days asleep face down in his Dad's hand..... oh so cute!!
Whenever you do decide to have your studio session make sure it's with a photographer experience with children.

In this digital age, there's no reason not to take pictures of your baby every day. Looking them over, you could well decide that there is no need to have any taken professionally (sorry, pros). It gets easier every year to place the image of the baby in whatever background you like.
If you do decide that you want professional studio shots, How often you get them done depends on how often you can afford it. Two weeks is not too early--the skull has had plenty of time to return to its normal shape after the birth and babies are very cute at that age.

No it's not too early. My daughter was born on 12/30/06. I had her in the studio on 1/4/07 for her first pictures. They are SO adorable. Capture that in the film. There's just something about a new baby. Let him/her sleep if possible. That's what my daughter did. It is such a precious picture!!

Two weeks in my opinion is a little early. You will have the hassle of trying to prop a floppy baby up, they will not look at the camera and babies aren't that cute at 2 weeks anyway (they are but they aren't if you know what I mean). At 10 weeks thay start to fill out a little and look much cuter.
When I look at the very early baby pics of my daughter she doesn't look half as cute as I thought she did at the time. I have a 10 week old boy and he is far cuter than he was a two weeks. You need to let them ripen a little.
Take lots and lots of your own photos tho obviously.

No - I don't think it is to early. If I could have taken my son's
for pictures that soon after they were born I would have!! I had
three c-sections. I was in pain for longer than eight weeks with all of them but I managed with my third son to take him at three weeks for pictures. In that month (December) I took him for three pictures, three weeks in a row, to two different studios. One Christmas picture alone, one with me, and one family Christmas picture. Any holiday or occasion means we need to take a picture my family takes a picture (at the studio) at least once every couple of months, birthday pictures, Christmas pictures, spring pictures, summer pictures, soccer pictures.. you get the idea I could go on and on. Have fun!!

you could do some great pictures at home for much cheaper. Just take a beautiful sheet or blanket and put it in their car seat, like draped over, and put baby in, and you can take some beautiful pictures of them sleeping, maybe they will even wake up and give you some sun faces.
I would wait till about 6 weeks for professionally paid pics.
another thing is just laying them on a sheet on their belly naked with their sleeping head towards you. look at photo albums for ideas. could save you alot of money and hassel being out in public with such a tiny little being.

I believe so! The flash would freak them out! For a professionally done picture... I say you wait 4 more weeks. If it's your own camera, sure go ahead but find a place where there's enough light so you won't have to use a flash.

My daughter was 3 weeks old when we first took her. We went to a private photographer. If you are going out into a public place just make sure to have the photographer sanitize thier hands before working with you. Make sure it is a clean enviroment as well:) We take our daughter monthly and she is 7 months old now.
