In a informations system, data is sometime replicated across multiple systems. This is done to ensure data availabilty to different systems without a performance impact.

Whenever, there is data redundancy, data reconciliation becomes necessary to ensure same data in all systems is consistent.

reconcile - compare data from one system with another and ensure it is similar or same

also, when information systems are changed, data residing in the system needs to be migrated to the new system. in this case also, the data needs to be reconciled once the migration is over to ensure that all data is copied into new system accurately and no data loss has happened.

mostly reconciliation is done via Reports

hope this helps!
