I have suffered with my skin since the age of about 12 (I am now 40). I have tried Dianette on 2 occassons over the years. I didn't find that I put on weight but it also had no effect on my skin whatsoever. Did stop me getting pregnant though.

As regards the tendency to gain weight, you need to keep this in perspective. Any contraceptive pill has the potential to cause some fluid retention and a little weight gain, especially in the first two or three months after starting to take it. However, whilst it is good to be aware of this possible side effect, not all women by any means experience any weight gain, though a small proportion report significant weight gain.
If you find that you are gaining more than three or four pounds beyond the three month initial period, you can then discuss with your doctor if you wish to stay on Dianette or not. The chances are that you will be very satisfied with it and that it will have the effect you are hoping for.

From http://www.dundee.ac.uk/medther/tayendoweb/images/dianette.htm
Cyproterone Acetate is also a potent progestational hormone (a second type of female sex hormone) and as such it inhibits the production of oestrogen. The addition of ethinyloestradiol compensates for the lack of oestrogen and the problems (hot flushes, menopausal-type symptoms) that would otherwise result. In relation to its component medicines, DianetteÒ resembles the oral contraceptive and, indeed, acts as an oral contraceptive.

They are treating you for hormone imbalance with fake/synthetic progestin. This is not good news see the transcript below. Briefly, fake progesetin will be blocking the beneficial effects of your own real progesterone. This is bad for your body. Your body needs both estrogen and progesterone to function see the transcript.
I would like to suggest that you do the on line hormone tests at www.hormoneprofile.com or www.johnleemd.com
If they recommend you obtain hormones please have a saliva test done see www.npis.info or www.salivatest.com.
A saliva test will check out active hormones something that blood tests do not.
If a hormone is suggested by the saliva test please take the dose suggested for you. Size 10 shoes are not twice as good if you have size 5 feet.
The WHO (World Health Organisation) uses saliva tests.
A transcript of a John Lee talk - this explains why for hormones a blood test is worthless..
http://www.keepsmilin.com/transcriptdrlee.htm
Blood tests find hormones but they are the one on their way out of the body. They are not the active hormone levels.
One woman's search for the cure for her illness 1997 revised 2002
http://www.ylcf.org/hormone-imbalance/01.htm - 33.htm yes about 30 odd pages
06.htm lists the things that may occur due to hormone imbalance
If you want a second opinion I'd suggest one of the doctors on the www.npis.info list. Also on this site there other women's stories.
If you search elsewhere on the web for “natural progesterone” or “natural progesterone acne” you may come across many stories.
At www.hormoneprofile.com there is quite a bit of information on how hormones work. The "pink card" is also there showing when to take the hormones
The books are available on Amazon uk, it is easier to find the info there than browsing the web.
Hope this helps ..

I was on it for 7 years recently came off it to TTC, so now am again cursing my spots had them as a teenager so went on dianette it takes a short while but you acne clears up, the only thing i would say is moisturise as it works by reducing the oils in the skin i experiences small dry patches on my arms but i thought a small price or pay to get rid of spots. My sister did the same and it worked also. Also it was a very effective contraceptive for me to.

I've been on it for 7 years now. I was told you shouldn't be on it for more than 3 years but when I came off it my skin just blew up. I tried a couple of others but they just didn't work for me and I wasn't prepared to go through anymore pain with my skin. They allowed me to go back on it as I don't smoke and am not a major risk for blood clots - I just have to have my blood pressure tested every 6 months. I did gain weight at first but I was only 16. It wasn't just that that made me gain weight anyway -it just made my appetite bigger. As long as you can control that and be sensible about what you eat you should be fine. I'm now 23, 9 stone (at 5ft 3) and pretty healthy. I eat a lot of fruit and veg, exercise fairly regularly but am not afraid to treat myself. Good luck - I hope it sorts you out!

Diannette definitley worked for me! I didn't put any weight on at all and it cleared up my spots, stopped my skin getting greasy, and also my hair. My skin used to get really oily only a couple of hours after washing my face, but now it's oil free all day :o)
