because conservatives don't widely support Nazi's whereas Liberals do tend to support abortion so don't be stupid. For someone with such a smart idea about abortion don't be an idot by calling conservatives Nazis

It probably has to do with simple economics. Libs, usually Democrats tend to think of themselves as working class, middle to lower income earners. They see conservatives usually Republicans as rich fat cats that never worked a day in their lives. With this perception they couldn't imagine a conservative to be compassionate, and people like Reagan, Bush I and II, and their so called compassionate conservatism haven't done the Cons any favors either. But by in large it has to do with class warfare. The rich are always the target of those not so well off. The reality is that most of the richest members of our society are Democrats. They receive those huge tax breaks that piss off the average worker, they get the benefits of corporate structure and overseas accounts to remove their tax burden, then stand before Congress to preach about the inequities of government as it applies to the worker. So if their money is leaving and not getting taxed, who will pay for this so called inequity. The easiest way for the very rich and elite to maintain that elitist status is to create a class war between one group and another and place government in the middle. Politicians are not all knowing. Their actions may or may not be well intended, but more likely than not they are reacting in a knee jerk reaction not unlike anyone else placed with considerable power. The elitists explain how spending so much will make everyone better off, and how the policies should be implemented. Then the war begins. Those who are Conservative by nature, and who are middle class, and see the new policies as nothing more than their taxes being spent to cover lazy free loaders, start crying about the cost. Then the mouth pieces get involved and stir the pot so the newly created bill being voted on becomes a personal attack on the individuals sovereignty. Those who are Liberals by nature, and who are middle class and lower income earners see this as the rich don't want to help the poor or unfortunate. Then their sides mouth pieces get involved and start the rhetoric to show the uncaring nature of the conservative. So the war begins. When its all said and done, both sides are poorer because of the flaws designed in the bill, the cost crushes both financially. Both sides have now been relegated to economic slaves, and the elitist not only keep their fortunes but invest in the system which will eventually be needed to replace it. Neither the Cons nor the Libs were right. The bill simply was never designed to work, so it becomes a fantastic failure. On top of that, the politicians rob the slatted money for the bill and divert it to pet programs. I bet everyone thought I referred to this health care bill, I'm referring to Social Security. Now Libs, take a very close look at what happened to Social Security, our Highway funds, all of our reinvestment attempts to benefit our country and our posterity. That is why you need to really think about letting government control health care. Far better to have government pick up the overage of a medical bill then let them place your health on the fiscal chopping block later. I'm not saying the Cons are right about what they feel will be a socialist government agenda. I'm saying that government has shown its ineptitude over and over again and that should at least make you think about what is being proposed.

Too many people on both sides of the divide are far wrapped up in the rhetoric of the day. Many of the more vocal adherents to conservatism and liberalism are clueless as to what each side really believes. This isn't everyone of course but it is a lot of the more noisy idealogues.
You make an excellant point in your posting. I too am a liberal. I am a liberal because of many social and environmental issues which I believe can not be ignored any longer.

If "life is life from conception", when does the fetus get a soul? The Catholic Church says, "at birth", otherwise they would allow priests to baptise unborn embryos.
The church also, until recently, believed unbaptised babies, having been born in sin but unredeemed by baptism, went to Purgatiry, since they had done nothing to go to Hell but hadn't earned a place in Heaven. I say until recently, because now they have decreed an unbaptised, stillborn baby (for example) goes to Heaven under the, "you decree it on Earth, God will Abide by it in Heaven" rule.
By aborting a fetus BEFORE it's born and has a chance to commit a sin and go to Hell, you now ASSURE that fetus's soul a place in Heaven as an unbaptised baby. I can think of no greater love two parents could demonstrate than to guarantee their fetus a place at God's Right Hand.
Emotional debate is SUCH a double edged sword, ain't it, Cons?

To "support" abortion means that you want as many abortions as possible to take place. There aren't any liberals who take this stance. Liberals simply want the civil right of the mother to be observed. Until the fetus can live on it's own outside the womb, it is dependant on the body of the mother for development. It is the mother's choice what happens in her body. Do I want abortions to happen? No. Should abortions be prohibited by law? Absolutely not.

Abortion is a liberal policy, insofar as the term "liberal" is defined today. You choose to identify yourself as liberal, and so you must bare the brunt of associating yourself with a political philosophy that, by and large, supports abortion.

The vast bulk of liberals do support Roe v. Wade and so abortion on demand. There are exceptions, such as Senator Casey in Pennsylvania and yourself.

I think you are very radical. Are all women crackheads according to you? Sounds like you just hate women. And in your scenario, just because a woman got addicted to a very powerful and addicting evil drug such as crack, she no longer deserves to live?!!! Your not a liberal, you just hate women and don't want them to have any rights, even when it may come to saving their life. Who made you god?

Good point. I too am getting tired of being labeled as a baby killer because I am a liberal. I am against abortion and I also feel that life begins at inception. I know there are others that feel this way and I am sick of the labels.

Good for you. But honestly, most liberals DO support abortion. That's what the stats say. But anyone with half a brain knows that not ALL liberals do.
