I was proposed a trade a couple days ago that I considered, but rejected. Did I do the right thing?

He gets: Josh Beckett, JJ Putz
I get: Johan Santana, Joe Borowski

Johan Santana is a 2nd half beast, with an ERA under 2.5 (i think) for his career.

Borowski sucks.

Beckett will soon begin giving up the long-ball again and go on a blister-ridden injury/losing streak.

Putz is putting together good numbers.

It's a tough call, but I'd probably ask him to up Borowski for something better at any position of need. You'll be happy you had Santana down the home stretch.

Shoulda taken it. Johan will be a stud, Beckett could (Not WILL) implode as the season wears on. Borowski's ERA/WHIP aren't as pretty as Putz's, but he will still get a ton of saves for the Tribe. And anything you lose in ERA/WHIP between Borowski and Putz in the few innings closers throw, Santana would have more than been made up for with the number of innings he will throw in the rest of the season. I would re-propose that to the guy and see if he will still go with it.

No need to get cute get Johan. As stated he is the best second half pitcher in the majors by far. Beckett is playing a little above his head and by a little i mean a TON. His fingers will blister soon. JJ is a great closer but I always say saves are saves. Jump all over this trade.

I would have taken the stability that is Johan's second-halves over the Beckett's uncertainty/career blister issues.

Putz is the better closer, no doubt, but I still think I would have jumped at the chance to get Johan - a first rounder - for Beckett. (A tenth? rounder this year)

Yes I feel you did the right thing, Putz is the man right now as far as closers go and Santana isn't putting up better numbers than Beckett by no means so you had to reject at this point. Good decision in my opinion
