I don't think so as long as you care for it properly and it dosen't interfere with you're ability to eat nutrious food that the baby needs if they make you not eat or something then that could be a problem but most of the peeps I know that had it done aren't in much pain and can resume normal activities (the mouth is the easiest place to get an infection) be x tra careful!!

Well I have to say I agree with everyone about waiting three months. I mean why take any chances, right? But those people telling you to grow up need to get over themselves. Just because you want to have your tongue pierced does not mean you are not grown up. Like you can't take care of a baby just because you have a piercing, please that is ridiculous. Although I have to say I would never get my tongue pierced, but good for you not being a follower, it's your tongue not mine or anybody else's. And also I totally agree with you about the fact that nobody gives up all of their likes just because they are having a baby or have children. It is possible to have kids and still have life.

if you get an infection it can kill your baby. its only 3 more months to wait.
the mouth is a very dirty place and tongues get infected so often, no matter how many times or how well you clean it. the antibiotics you would need for an infecction can also hurt the baby, not to mention septecemia is a very big risk with tongue piercings.

tetnus is the least of your worries if the kit was sterile. tetnus grows on horse feces so only if its been exposed to that some how are you at risk for tetnus

There is risks if you get an infection of some sort! Why not wait the extra 3 months until your baby is born and then go get it done! If you get an infection there is a greater risk of passing it to your baby because I don't believe there are alot of meds they can give prego women!

I can tell you right now, they will NOT peirce your tongue while pregnant. For a guarantee I know this. There are too many risks. And right now, you need to be focusing on this baby and not what you can do for yourself. Getting your tongue peirced costs at least $40....you could spend that on something more useful for the baby. OR for that matter, go get a pedicure and manicure or a nice long massage. I had my tongue peirced when I was 18, but 2 weeks after I found out I was pregnant, I took it out because I knew it was "mommy time" and not time for me to look or be "cool" with a tongue peircing. Not trying to be mean or rude, but that's my opinion on this matter.

Piercing is not recommended during pregnancy because of the risk of infection, the long healing time and the changes in the body that come with the growing baby. Most piercers will not even consider piercing women during pregnancy, preferring that they wait until a safer time.

Well the concern is that there are a lot of bacteria in the mouth and that a piercing is an open wound. In theory you could get a blood infections (sepsis) and that could cross the placenta (depending on the bacteria).

As to the actual percentage of time this happens, no clue but it is probably pretty rare.

In any case what is the harm in waiting 3 months?

Grow up, your going to be a mom! Of course there is risk when you stick a piece of metal through your tongue. Your baby isn't as strong as you are and shouldn't have to deal with any possible side affects. What is the harm in waiting 3 more months!!! People like you drive me crazy! "It probably won't hurt the baby, so why not do it" You've obviously never lost a pregnancy.

I would think the only risk is infection. If you get an infection, your child is at risk too! It is not that long until you give birth why not just wait. That is one of things you do once you become a parent, put your child's needs and wants before your own!

Anytime there is a risk of infection to you, then there is a risk of infection to your baby. Do you really want to have to explain to your child or people the reason he/she has a certain disorder is b/c you couldn't wait 3 months to get your tongue peirced??
