I can't say "high quality athletes" right?...what can I say instead?...I mean, athletes of excellent level...is there a proper word for this?...

exceptional athletes, talented athletes, gifted athletes, dedicated athletes... you can use any number of words to positively describe athletes

Has someone told you you can't say "high quality athletes"? I wonder why. It is, admittedly, a bit limp and lazy, but it's not wrong.

If you're looking for alternatives, always prefer the simple to the wordy. Why not just "excellent athletes" or "the best athletes" or "superb athletes" or "supreme athletes"?

Your choice will depend on how good the said athletes actually are, of course.
