As far as research goes, I would use google once you figure out the type of birth control you want to use. I personally have been on BC for 10 years, and I have used the ortho evra patch, which I stopped because my doctor said I was overweight for it to be effective (I weighed 177 lbs and the doctor said it was effective to 175 lbs...go figure), and there are increased health risks mainly blood clots with the ortho evra patch and not very reliable in the bath (which I enjoy) or swimming pool I constantly worried about it comming off.
Then I switched to Nuva Ring, which I loved, it is a ring inserted vaginally for 3 weeks, then removed for 1 week, then you start again with a new ring. You get your period in the week without it. It is very comfortable and you or your partner do not even know it is there. The only reason I have decided not to continue to take it is because my insurance doesn't cover it, but I do check back to check if they do yet and as soon as they do I will start again. This is great for someone who forgets alot (like me)...
The pill is OK, right now I am taking Apri, but there are tons out there some even help with complexion....you have to remember to take your pill at the same time every day, so I carry mine in my purse and my cell phone and my fiance's cell has a reminder on it...so if I don't notice mine I have him telling me to take my pill =)
With any form of birthcontrol you should not smoke, and if you are prone to blood clots you should let your doctor know.
I am getting married in 11 months and will finally say goodbye to birthcontrol, but it was the wisest decision I have made about my body to go on it. I get to dictate when I ready for a family, and it keeps your body regular in a lot of cases....

I don't know where you would be able to start to look but I will let you know about the ones I have been on!! I used the nuva ring and loved it, had no problems with it, some have said to have a lot of bleeding on it. I did get pregnant on it though but I think it was from a mis-communication between my Dr. and I on when it should be taken out!! I would have used it again but didn't want to take the chance it was not a mis-communication! I am on what is called implanon right now. It is like norplant but is only one rod that is inserted just under the skin in my arm and it lasts for 3 years. I did bleed the first 4 months straight I had this put in so that was BAD and have not had regular periods on it either. I am considering having it taken out just because of the unpredictability of it, but I have a friend who has it as well and has had no bleeding at all since she has been on it. Oh and I also got pregnant with this one but had a miscarriage the day I was suppose to have it taken out. Implanon is a progesterone only birth control. I will say no birth control is 100% reliable I think someone somewhere has gotten pregnant on every birthcontrol there is out there just find what works best for you!

Try looking up 'birth control' first.
Decide what kind you want to take...on a daily basis? Monthly? Every 3 months?
Long term or short term?
Once you figure out what METHOD you want, its easier to find the kind you want.
