I used to believe it, but some 'friends' thrive on any bit of misery that is going on in your life and are more than willing to 'share' each excruciating detail. When you are doing alright for yourself, it almost seems as if they resent your happiness.
Some 'friendships' only exist out of mutual shared pain and every meeting/outing is spent bemoaning their fate, instead of positively encouraging each other. Often these types, when not complaining have nothing to talk about.
By the same token, some 'friends' only call when they are in need or bored and other than that, you never hear from or see them.
