I haven't used Yahoo! geocities. I'll tell you a bit about Google Page Creator without hoping to gain points...

GPC offers quite a few templates you can use, as is, to create a page. As time goes by, you can add/subtract modules ("widgets") to your web pages. For any of those pages you may edit the actual HTML. Into the space provided you may also upload images, css files, full html files, whatever... to which and from which you may link from the page you edit via GPC...

Further, if you're adventurous (as I was) you may edit the full HTML of the GPC page. Google offers help pages describing the full widget language (an XML DTD) so that you may have full control over the look and feel of your main page. And, if you learn the secret tricks, you may set up the main page so as to bypass it and have it jump to another page in your uploaded pages.

Finally, you can use GPC as part of your "arsenal" in Google Apps for Your Domain - that is, if you own a domain name, in effect, Google hosts your web files, and you use GPC to create web pages for your domain - and your domain may also include such other services as a Google Start Page, a Google Group, a Blog, a Gmail address, shared Documents, etc. Handy stuff I've used for one of my clients, a public education group...

The simple answer is neither authoring tool is as effective as Netscape's Composer.

If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a "homepage" which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage. Nevertheless, the "homepage" URL is likely to be "http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... name" and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., "mydomain.com" which allows you to link any registered domain name to "mask" another website. For example, should you type in "domainname.com", you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... name will be masked by the domainname.com. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE. Here's a demonstration: Type in the URL window: "www.pizzanextdoor.com" which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: "http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzamen... and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name!

Good luck!

Webstarts.com is your answer. It's free to sign up and their online editor uses simple drag and drop functionality so you need zero web experience to build completely custom websites. They also have image search and video search tools, so dropping videos, images, text and even music takes 1 or 2 clicks at most. Check them out here: http://Webstarts.com

You can also register a domain or configure it to work with your existing domain. They make it really simple and provide everything: hosting, domain registration, tons of templates to choose from, images, videos, etc... I've never found anything out there quite like it. It's pretty powerful, and at the same time super easy to use.
