I listen to Japan-a-radio - it's mostly pop. Japan has the same genres anyone has, pop, rock, metal, rap, classical, and so on. So it would help to know what kind of things you like. The pop music can be very 'bubble gum' and the metal is usually extremely angry. The rap is just weird. The best thing to do is to listen to a variety station on the internet and pay attention to the artists for the songs you like.
