Well, in their first 100 hours, they accomplished a lot more than the Republicans.
>They enacted recommendations of the 9/11 commission
>They enacted a higher minimum wage
>They pushed for stem cell research
>They put through legislation to negotiate the cost of prescription drugs to Medicare patients
>They passed legislation calling for lower interest rates for student loans.
>They passed legislation to roll back tax breaks and subsidies on oil companies.
Here it is on the NY Times' site: http://www.nytimes.com/ref/washington/100HOURS_GRAPHIC.html
There are investigations into the firing of US Attorneys.
There is so many legislations that they are working on, just because they lost one big battle, doesn't mean they have lost the 'war.' You need to have more patience, and become more active, and contact your legislators, if you would like to see what they do.

You got some good answers. One thing I saw missing is no one mentioned the poor leadership of Pelosi and Reid. The two of them were great in ripping Bush to the point they won back the Congress, but from there they've made one mistake after another. They have been ineffective.
I noticed a bunch of answers excusing Democrats by blaming Bush for using the veto. Wrong. This man has shown a willingness to sign just about anything handed to him. The only thing he has been unwilling to do is sign legislation announcing an end date to the war. He was ready to sign this last immigration bill. The fact is: Republican leadership has been running circles around the Democrats. They've conceded to the minimum wage and a few other minor things, but on the most important issues they've been kicking the Democrats rear ends.

Triumph - If you are truly a Democrat....I want to say thank you for speaking out against your own party. Not many of you do. Kudos! I feel the same about some of the people in my party as you do. However, I think the Bush administration is messy, not quite a total mess ;)
I feel BOTH parties need to just quit bashing and undermining each other and get to work on illegal immigration. Why can't they just put it to a vote for the American public? The legal American public at that!

There are still too many Republicans in Congress. The Democrats have a slim majority in the Senate and can’t override vetoes or achieve cloture because they don’t have enough votes. The Republicans mostly stick together to block the Democrats.

You answered your own question, I'm afraid. It SEEMS like they are only interested in embarrassing Bush, because they ARE. They are afraid if things go well in ANY capacity, Bush will get the credit for it. Then they can't say "See how much Bush makes the world suck?" Which completely baffles me. Last time I looked Bush wasn't up for election. What's the need to constantly run against him?
Edit*
I wish I could give Matt 10 thumbs up! Well said.

We have the same thing in CT. Democrats have a super majority in both houses and we have a Republican governor. There are so many fractured interests in the party today that it is hard to build coalitions. Now that they are in charge, they are finding the hard way that criticizing is easy, results are hard.

You gotta remember that Bush will veto just about anything the Democrats bring to his desk, and unless they can get a 2/3 vote in Congress to approve the bill despite the president's veto, their bills will not be made into law.
The truth is: the Democrats aren't convincing enough to get Republicans to support their ideas.

Awesome Q Triumph--gave you a star so my friend McKenzie can answer too--a moderate REAL dem just like you. I am a conservative, but have crossed party lines to vote for whomever I felt could get the job done.
A bumper sticker I saw this past weekend may solve all our problems (lol, maybe not all).....but it read, "SAVE AMERICA, Don't re-elect anybody, National, State or Local". I looooooooooooooove that idea! Maybe with fresh faces, we can finally accomplish something. Maybe then 'they' will listen to we the people.

They are just doing what they do best; accuse, stall, nitpik, and procrastinate. Let's face facts, you may not go along with what President Bush has done while in office or what the Republican Congress did, but at least they DID something. The old addage, "the only people who don't make mistakes are the people who don't do anything", certainly applies to this Democratic Congress. They are so afraid of making a misstep that will hurt their re-election chances that they just don't do anything.

Yeah well because we were stuck in the Bush administration's mindset maybe we had idealistic hopes for the new congress. Now we come to the realization that governments don't do **** for the people often times.
