I went to confirm my pregnancy and the walk in doctor told me that he doesn't think my pregnancy is viable (because my first blood test showed a HCG level of 36). He told me I will definitely miscarry or that I'm having an ectopic pregnancy. He sent me for a vaginal ultrasound and the results showed that there was a gestational sac present but no yolk sac. At the time I was 4 weeks pregnant. My second blood test (2 days later) showed that my HCG level is 106. The walk-in doctor told me not to get my hopes up that this is unlikely viable. Can you see the yolk sac on a 4 week ultrasound? This doctor has convinced me that I will not continue this pregnancy. This is my first pregnancy. I'm going into my fifth week and have done nothing by worry! I always thought my first pregnancy would be filled with joy and anticipation. Instead I'm scared out of my mind.

In all my us i had a yolk sac at this point. But id does not mean it is not there. You could be not as far along as you think you are. What you want to watch for is your HCG numbers to continue to double at least every 48 hours. And by what you said it has done that between these to tests. This is a very hard spot to be in. I am sorry this is starting so scary for you. If you need to email me you can I would be happy to listen.

First of all...I HIGHLY recommend you go to another doctor immediately! Don't worry too much about the HCG Levels...the fact that you can see a yolk sac at 4 weeks is a VERY good sign.

I went to ER because I had some spotting ( I thought I was almost 7 weeks at this time). They tested my HCG levels and they were 7505, but on the ultrasound all we saw was a gestational sac with no yolk or anything. The ER doctor told us that it looked like a blighted ovum to her and that I would probably miscarry that weekend.

The next Monday I went to my Doctor (3 days later) and my HCG levels were over 17,000, we also saw a yolk sac on the ultrasound (the DR. determined I was only about 5 weeks and 2 days).. I have PCOS so my ovulation is unpredictable.

I went to the DR. yesterday and saw my baby's heart beating at 121bpm.

Don't give up hope yet! Maybe you are earlier than you think. Please call another doctor and see about getting in as soon as possible. Having a positive and compassionate doctor can make all the difference in the world!

Your hCG levels would be considered normal for someone at that stage of pregnancy (Going by Last menstrual period). Even someone up to 8 weeks pregnant could have levels like you. A six week Ultrasound is sometimes not far enough along for technicians to see a fetal heartbeat etc. Many doctors will not perform an Ultrasound until a few weeks later. Also can you be sure you are 6 weeks. Your hCG levels would suggest you are but it's difficult to pinpoint the time of conception. Another ultrasound in a few weeks should tell you more.

I am in a similar position to you - had hcg level taken at week 5 and it was 137. Doctor seemed really concerned and wants me to go back for another test on Monday. I've been doing a lot of reading and I think that between 4 and 6 weeks, it's tough to tell if something is wrong or not. I would not give up hope. Your hcg level doubled within 2 days as it's supposed to - so that's positive. I just read somewhere that it's not the initial level that matters as much as how fast it increases. Pls let me know what happens when you go back.

Unfortunately your doctor is right. By now they should at least see an egg yolk of some sort and not a completely empty sac. Additionally at 4 weeks your hcg should be over 500 and at 5 weeks over 2,000. Your hcg is very low for being as far along as you are. Sounds like you've got a blighted ovum which will mask the signs of pregnancy, but not be a true pregnancy as evidenced by the empty sac.

same thing happened to me i had a hcg test it was 105 went back 48 hours later it went down to 25 which ment i had a miscarriage, i had a sack but no baby, alot of women miscarry in thier 1st pergnancy, but dont panic incase things are fine, but prepare yourself for the worse, if your levels are only 36 at 4 weeks that means you are likey to have miscarriaged as in 4 weeks it should be between 100 and 500, i am sorry i cant say things will be fine but i hope this helps, and you can see a small yolk in the sac at 4wks

Sorry to hear that the doc is not very supportive. Did you have a transvaginal or abd ultrasound? By 4 weeks you should see a yolk sac, but then again maybe your dates are wrong. I would wait two more weeks and get scanned again because they should be able to pick up the fetal heart beat. You won't hear it but they can see it. Hope this helps, and relax a little...I know it is hard, but stress is not good for a growing fetus.

My doctor still couldn't see a fetal pole at 5 1/2 weeks. I would find another doctor. As long as the HCG is doubling every couple of days you should be fine.

This is just a guess, but MAYBE you should ask your ob-gyn. They're actually qualified to answer your question.
