There is a little girl, almost a year old, who came in contact with chicken pox, and they broke out on Monday. Her 3 year old cousin was around her before the spots broke out. The 3 year old came to my house on Sunday....can she carry them to my 9 month old? My daughter has not been near the little one that has them, just the 3 year old, and she has nothing yet. Just wondering if the 3 year old can carry the virus to my daughter. Keeping in mind that the spots were not out on the year old girl, when my daughter seen the 3 year old. Thanx

Anyone who has chicken pox is infectious to others who have not had the disease. The infectious period begins during the one or two days before the skin eruptions appear, continuing until new eruptions stop appearing and lesions are scabbed over. Symptoms of infection appear 10 to 21 days after exposure. There is no way to protect a person who has never been infected with chicken pox after exposure to the virus.
More than likely your daughter will be OK if you keep the 3 year old away for the next 3 weeks to make sure she doesn't have it. I would just keep an eye on her. That's all you can really do now is wait. Don't take your daughter around any other kids for a few weeks either, just to be on the safe side. But more than likely your daughter is not in trouble, but the 3 year old definitely is at a high risk, so keep her away for 3 weeks.

let your child get chicken pox..getting it provides lifelong immunity and vaccinations don't they increase the chances of her getting it later as an older child or adult. Chicken pox outbreaks are more harmful the later you get them in life
