What is the best way to keep garden roses that have been cut to be brought inside?

I cut them off the brush on a angle, then again under cool water before placing in a vase.

Is there any home remedy that I can add to keep them longer?
Mine usually lasts about 3-5 days, and then the petals fall off. I've tried the asprin thing, but that doesn't work.

not just an angle but a sharp one so they can take up the maximum water possible. remove all leaves which will be under the water level and add a little bit of sprite or seven up to the the water so they can continue to eat .. yes re cut every other day and change the water. also look at the vase daily and add water if need be.

I can't seem to grow roses, but I can grow everything else. Make sure the water is room temperature and put sugar in the water. Someone once told me that so see if that works.
