The immigration has been a bit one sided . . . Would you agree or disagree that certain immigrants deserve precedence or expedited service for legal status? Specifically, would you agree or disagree that any person who has a four year college degree or better from an American University or comprable international university should receive expedited immigration service pending back ground checks? Or how about immigrants that have the financial resources to reasonably support themselves and or open a small business? Do you think these people should be lumped together with other illegal immigrants or do they deserve special status? Thank you in advance for your response(s).

"other illegal immigrants" If they're educated and illegal, they're still illegal and should be deported until they can obey the laws of the country they want to move to.

Logically, immigrants who can support themselves would be easier to receive, as well as those who have something to offer us. But what is that? A degree in engineering from an EU university may be nice but isn't someone with strong work ethics willing to do physical labor for minimum wage an asset as well?

Besides the logic- the Statue of Liberty welcomes people who are in need and so should we all. If they aren't hardened criminals, they should have a home here where the country was built by so many waves of immigrants. We have diversity and strength from it because of immigration.

The problem isn't with the immigrant status, we already have criteria for determining whether individuals will get legal visas etc. The problem that people have is with granting legal status to individuals that are currently here illegally. They broke the law and came to this country illegally and now the politicians want to say that is OK and we will now allow them to stay here and work legally. The cost of this bill is estimated to be in the trillions of dollars over the next 20 years.

Are we talking about ILLEGAL immigrants?

My question would be - did they get the funding to go to school from the government? Did they use fraudulent SSNs to gain any funds to support themselves? If that's the case, then no, they broke the law AND took advantage of monies that could have gone to a worthy, law-abiding citizen. Some people argue that the United Negro College Fund and the Native American College Funds are bad, well, funding college for illegals is worse when there's plenty of Americans who would love to go to college, but for some reason or another, can't afford it.

They do not deserve any more special treatment then they already get. Professionals like doctors and engineers get special treatment and can normally get into the country faster. There is no problem there. The problem is the millions of illegals in the country who have only a fourth grade education.

Hmm, sounds like we would be giving them the Paris Hilton treatment. I think it should be fair and as long they can pass a background check and can prove they are productive members of society (and I don't mean productive by producing children) then they should be able to stay. America needs people who want to work and will appreciate they opportunities it has to offer, whether they have degrees or not.
