It's not my favorite song, but I heard Styx's song Lady the other day. At around one minute and ten seconds into the song, I heard a low noise that sounded like someone belching. Once you hear it, it's pretty obvious. I asked a friend to listen and she heard it too. Has anyone else noticed this, and is there any explanation other than someone belching?

The sound occurs right after he sings the word "grown".

As a Styx fan, your question intrigued me so I went and grabbed my iPod to take a listen. My initial thought was either bass guitar or drums, and since I wasn't sure, I set my brother (also a huge Styx fan) to task on figuring it out. He isolated the section of the song you questioned and listened and listened and listened and listened. He came to the conclusion that it was either the kick drum or tom tom, and he came to this conclusion by listening to other versions (Lady '95 and live versions) to figure out which instrument transitions were happening in the song at that point for comparison.

NO! I've listened to the song numerous times, but as a refresher, listened again after seeing your question, and the sound you mention is from an electric synthesizer/guitar. I suppose though, if you plant that idea into most anyone's head, they can be made to think a 'belching' sound is what is made. Nice try though.

It's not a belch, it sounds like a Korg or a Moog synthesizer.
But, great thanks for ruining the song for me, now every time I hear it from now on, I'll think about someone belching.
