i believe the law is regarding statuatory rape. when you are 18 and 16, he will be an adult and you will still be a minor (legally speaking), since there is more than 2 years age difference, if you have sex, or any sexual touching of any kind, he could be prosecuted for statuatory rape, even if you agreed and went along with it. the law is in place to protect minors from being manipulated or tricked into having "Consenting" sex with adults. It is a serious offense and jail time could be around 10 years if he were convicted.

Again, this is only a factor if you are having sex or getting sexual, it doesn't mean you cant date, hang out together etc. And your parents would have to press charges for anything to happen.

I suggest you find your state's official website and traverse the links to the state law, its a bit teadeous but you should be able to find your states specific laws regarding adults and minors (look under statuatory rape)

No worries. If he under 17 and either or 3 year difference you have no worries. You can legally date.

Here is some info for ALL the states:

Colorado, where I am, has a 4 years older and under 15 law. You two should be ok, in general.

EDIT!! ...depending on which state you are in!

Your boyfriend is correct, he is considered an adult in the eyes of the law and he could go to jail. If he were to be convicted then he would go to jail and be labeled a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Depends on where you live, and if your parents will press charges.
