I have a 2004 Cavalier with 33,000 miles on it. Ive tried to take excellent care of it, changed the oil myself every 3,000 miles and the last time I changed the oil was at 31,000 so I would think that it would have another 800-1,000 miles left before I have to change it. This is the first time I have seen the check engine light come on while driving. Just curious as to if anyone has any speculations as to what the problem could be with a 2004 Cavalier / 33,000 Miles.

Pretty much anything related to driveability/emissions starting with you having a gas tank cap open on a running engine...
You need to scan codes, and this will require an OBD2 scanner. They start at about $50 but you can also go to some autozone store - I've heard they scan it for you for free. I wouldn't trust their interpretation though.

The car should still be under warranty. Take it to the dealer. There is no way for anyone to speculate about what could have caused it because there are 90-100 different reasons the check engine light would come on.

Quickly take the car to a dealer and get it fixed while it is still under warranty. You only have 3000 miles left. Let the Chevy dealer worry about it.

Could just be you forgot to tighten your gas cap or a vacuum hose leak under the hood.

use the warranty you will be paying on your own soon enough
its costs no more money to have them scan it or repair it than anybody else.. every body charges flat rate now so your not going to get a buy on it

it may just be a spark plug you can take it to auto zone and they can hook a thing up to it and let you know exactly what the problem is for free
