With all the possibility for another World war (if any one been watching the news, the tensions between all the nations in the world are growing, similar to the nations in WW1.)
A plague (HN51 bird flu) global warming, possible pole shifts and to top it all off, an asteroid is going to be visiting us in 2026 (it is going fly below the orbit of earth's artificial satellites, that is way too close for comfort.) Then there is the rumor of the world ending on 2012, Dec 21. What do you think about this and would you change the way you lived and look at life if you knew you and everyone around you would die sometime this century may it be 2012, or 2026?

All these rumors? No. The asteroid coming and climate changing, yes. Scientists have detected an asteroid and it is coming this way. As for global warming, the ice caps are melting and I have noticed winters getting shorter and shorter. These I believe can create a very bad disaster Not to mention a supervolcano in the US may be ready to go at any moment.

There are many forms of extinction you may not have heard of. For example super-volcanoes, the most destructive force on this planet. An eruption would destroy a vast area of land and trigger a nuclear winter. The whole of Yellowstone is a massive super volcano - and it is 40,000 years late in its cycle of eruptions. Scientists have been noticing some strange tectonic activity in the park…
The combined nuclear capacity of the US and Russia is more than enough to kill every human on this planet.....to obliterate a million Hiroshimas. Nuclear Holocaust is the stuff of nightmares but the Cuban Missile Crisis showed us how close we can come so easily. But there are little known incidents in which nukes have been shockingly close to launching, with no crisis elsewhere.
There is also the threat from bacteria and viruses. Bacteria are becoming immune to our antibiotics at a much faster rate than we are discovering new ones. Eventually we will have nothing left to fight them with. Terrorists and leaders of rogue states have long been trying to produce large quantities of tropical viruses, such as Ebola and Lassa Fever. New technology allows these viruses to be engineered to be more contagious, stronger and harder to kill. Their effect on the human body is already terrifying.
The Bible prophesises the end of the world in the Battle of Armageddon. Many scriptures in the Bible describe this event, and give clues to how and when it may happen. Several of them seem to point to a date of 2007 for the return of the Antichrist and the beginning of the Battle. They depict in detail how the Battle will be fought - it starts with an alliance of Arab nations invading Israel.
Millions could also die with rising sea levels. If the Antarctic ice sheet were to melt then sea levels around the world would rise by 55 meters, completely flooding hundreds of large cities such as Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo. Now there is a large amount of evidence that the ice sheet is thinning and global sea levels are starting to rise. With the predicted rise in global temperatures over the next century the rate of melting can only increase.
Aliens invasions are the stuff of science-fiction, but could soon become very real. Of all the trillions of other stars in the universe, surely we cannot be the only ones with life. There are numerous ways that aliens could break the light speed barrier; such as worm holes, folding space and 'hyper-space'. There are numerous reasons why an alien race might wish to invade Earth, such as needing new land or resources, or simply doing what we call 'ethnic cleansing'.
New experiments being carried out at a particle accelerator called the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) could have unthinkable consequences. There, and at other such places, scientists are attempting to recreate the big bang - the event that formed the universe. Some predict that they could cause a black hole which would consume the Earth, others that it could turn Earth into a planet of 'strange' matter, leaving it with no substance, and another possibility is that an explosion would be released from the lab with infinite energy.
The most famous example of an event that could cause Armageddon - is a Near Earth Object. There are millions of these capable of hitting the Earth with apocalyptic force. Impact would cause vast fireballs, huge earthquakes to ripple round the globe and towering dust clouds that would cause a nuclear winter. Apophis is due for a near impact in 2036.

hope is the pillar that holds the world.
though your fears r justified, i find it hard to believe that the end is near. okay, there have been some tensions b/w nations but then that doesn't mean we are heading for a ww3.
for ur info., probs like global warming, plague etc. have only brought the world closer than before because these aren't the problems faced by any single country but ratherare the probs of global concern.
rumours will always remain rumours. it amazes me that u pay heed to such rumours even while living in the 21st century.
as for your last question, i don't personally am of the opinion that the world would perish but if it were to be destroyed, then i surely would be more compassionate to others. so u see even if the world comes to an end, that would only serve the mankind better.
so be an optimist and live in the present. leave the future to god coz he knows best.

I really do think that some serious events are going to happen within the next 10 years. With the problems our world is facing, something bad is bound to happen. There are so many ways that the world can get destroyed at any second that it is no laughing matter. I live in NYC and everyday I fear that a some terrorist can drop a suitcase in the city and I'll get vaporized from a Nuclear blast.
I also believe that God is going to punish us. Whether or not you are a religious person, you must realize that Morals and Ethics are at an all time low. Humans have altered nature, distorted life, polluted the environment, and God is not going to take all of our sins for much longer.

You are not alone in your in your belief/fear that the the end of the world could be round the corner. There have been few times in recorded history that so much is changing in our world. This has been apparent since the Second world war with the first atom bomb and the subsequent proliferation of nuclear nations,Moslim terrorism, the holocaust ,the return of the Jews to the promised land, economic meltdowns, the decline of the Western world etc.But there are those who feel that the era of the Messiah is at hand.I would not be too concerned either way because life is a gift to lived. If one beleives in a Higher Hand one can enjoy the security of knowing that there is a plan in all that is happening in our world.Either way, life should be lived to the full.

As far as the capacity of the human race to end itself through an act of war is concerned, it is absent. It has proven to be non-existent. We do not have courage or outrage strong enough to over the fear of an ultimate doom. It can be cited that in 1962 during Cuba missile crisis the world came closest to WW3, a purely nuclear war. But what happened? Human diplomatic abilities came to counteract any possible act of human aggression. The war was averted and things went back to normal. And as far as asteroids are concerned, they might hit the earth or they might not. I am not worried. For if I am, what can I do to stop. Things of this nature can happen in the universe. The only thing I would like to stay focused upon the course of human nature through the labyrinth of this complicated world. Are we strong enough to wish to life forever? This is the question. For if we are then death is just a happening. Something that would happen to our physical being, and the spirit will live on one way or the other.
Human beings have a proven track record of survival through allsorts of circumstances and conditions. The process of evolution itself has not been a child’s play. And the I we believe the this advance homo-sapiens race is infused by some divine spirit then we can also believe that there is more wisdom in the creation of the world, the very wisdom that created us, then we can ever think of. The strength of spirit and strength of belief then is the strongest weapon in human possession that can ward of any adversary challenging us in opposition anywhere in any shape of form.

They've been saying that for ages and the world is still here!
Who knows? They thought it would end in 2000, now they're speculating 2012 but that will likely pass without incident & be forgotten then they'll come up with another doomsday.
The bottom line is to live your life right now! Enjoy each day without worrying what might happen in the future. This world isn't the be-all & end-all anyway. Our souls will live forever in the afterlife. Just enjoy this world as long as it lasts.

What a fantastic website !
That's right up my street, nice one mate.
In answer to your question...
We are so unbelievably lucky to even be here. The chances of us having this conversation are just so infinitely small. Our lives, our world, our galaxy, our universe is so incredibly precarious we could, and probably will, all be killed very soon.
This is the kind of thing that makes me get up in a morning! Love life, love everyone and go and get smashed with your mates because this is a great place.
Don't worry dude, yes the ride may end but it's still going right?
:)

If you think 5 to 10 billion years is near. Earth itself will not end until the Sun expands into a red giant when it has used most of its hydrogen. I only watch weather forecasts on the news. Perhaps you should stop watching it, if it depresses you so much. Dad loved to worry and even more to annoy others with his worries, so he watched news at 6AM, 12PM, 5PM and 10PM if he was home for all of them. He always found something with which to annoy us all. I can find enough worries without seeking more.

All ancient calendars end Dec 21st 2012, that means get god and fast. The world will end in 1 billion years anyways when the sun gets to its red giant stage anyway, party like a rockstar, do what you can, and die

You do know that many people were convinced that the world would end in 1000AD (ok, they were christians, who make a fine art out of self-deception and delusional beliefs)?
The Jehovah's Witnesses prdict the end of the world every few years, and always have excuses for why it didn't happen.
I am thinking that the world will be around for a while longer, and if it isn't, well there isn't a lot we could do to change that reality, is there?
