My daughter is 15 weeks old and can't sleep at night or nap in the day without being swaddled she's very wriggly or wakes herself up with a jolt. How old are babies in general when they grow out of this and don't need wrapping up anymore? And any tips on getting her to sleep without being swaddled? Thanks

First off let me just say that my children did not like being wrapped up so it is not a necessity. Try placing her in a baby swing or a car seat for a while until she grows out of the stage where she is waking herself up. My two sons loved their swing, (I got them the neck support insert as well). My daughter only slept in the car seat for the first couple months. babies like the feeling of being in close quarters which is why doctors suggest swaddling but it does not work for all babies. Whatever works for them is what I would suggest, many times I would place the car seat in the crib so that they would get used to being in their room alone but they were still in an environment that was comfortable to them.

Hey well we swaddled r baby till he was 6 months old because he had such a hard time sleeping. I used to think it was cruel when my husband would do it up then i realized its better then letting them cry there self to sleep. We have swaddled all three of our kids and by 3 months old they sleep through the night.
Good luck and congrats on your new lil one. Also Just to let you know there is a awsome website for babys and moms
WWW.babiesonline.com. You can have a journal online and pixs and milestones.

My daughter hated being swaddled, we tried it a few times when she was under a month old and she didnt like it all... but my niece loved it and could only sleep that way. She had to be in her swing too. She stayed that way until she was about 5 or 6 months old. She grew out of it on her own. As I am sure your baby will...

My friends baby boy is still being swaddled at 10 months. It is the only way he will go to sleep. My daughter hated being swaddled since she was born!

I loved being swaddled when I was younger and let my grandparents do it until I was about 5. I was a "Papoose". Anyway, they will grow out of it, it will just take time. Could you swaddle her and lay her on the floor or in her bed? I wouldn't assume you would have to hold her for her to be swaddled...

I think both of my kids stopped wanting to be swaddled when they were just about three weeks old or less. That may be soon, your baby's desire to be swaddled may have lasted longer than most, but it just depends on the baby.

I wouldn't stop doing it until she starts wiggling her way out of it. It's not hurting anything to keep doing it until she's ready, is it?

You may try different types of swaddling....they just grow accusutom to the feeling of being held and something up against them. I used a soft teddy bear and layed it behind my daughter in her crib...with the head in the middle of her back and wrapped it's little arms around her chest! Sounds crazy, I know, but it worked like a charm!!!

i would just let her stay swaddled for as long as she likes it. Don't mess with her sleep routine and habits if they're working!! Let her feel warm and held and secure from the swaddling. It's a good thing with no harm done.

Some doctors actually consider swaddling bad. New studies have shown that it delays growth and can cause discomfort. If your child wiggles alot find a sound until it see's better, that is soothing.....it may take a few tries.....but it worked on my little girly. I never swaddled her....

Just swaddle her it is fine at her age she still is missing the constant swaddle of your womb so let her be she will grow out of it on her own.
