Yes, it was James Buchanan, like everybody said. He didn't know what to do about the slavery issue, so he did nothing.

And, the first state to secede was while he was still the President, and he gave no response. Left Lincoln a big mess to clean up.

Old Buck was not the worst President we've had.

Admittedly, it rank in the bottom ten, but we had some that were worse. Warren G. Harding, Martin Van Buren, Abraham Lincoln, and John Tyler spring to mind as being worse, and I'm sure that a little thought would come up with one of two more.

At any event, Old Buck managed to stave off secession for another four years.
