sorry I am a jetta owner as well...that is the risk we take when we buy foreign cars..the work to be done on them is outrageous...I scratched the bottom of my car on a low driveway and I asked them to paint it and they said it would cost me 700.00 I said WHAT?! It is a couple of scratches not a dent! They said well that is our estimate...why because the paint has VW on it?! To say the least I had it done for 250.00 elsewhere...it is up to you where to take it, but you should make sure it does get fixed before more problems occur and the price is even worse! And with VW'S their prices jump all over the market. I was at the shop and a lady had a similar problem her gas cap was broken and the seal was missing and they could not replace the cap until it could be ordered..but they said that was the reason her light kept coming on because it is leaking fumes...to say the least she was irate and asked for a new one from another car and they said sorry can not do that...boy you could see smoke coming from her...

Engine or Oil light ? Does it flash on and off like a bounce or does it come on and stay on a while?
If it is an oil light and it flashes or bounces, the connection to the oil pressure sender is probably loose, check the connection near the oil pump.
If it is an( Engine light ?) you're on your own, my bikes have all been older than yours.

Doent sound like anything serious. I bet it's a O2 censor thats broken or coming loose. Harleys vibrate alot and its not uncommon for thing to loose up like bolts and censors. Make sure you exhust bolts are on tight and hav the dealer check all you sensors i bet on is just dirty or broken. If it was the oil pressure or coolant you would know. The bike would run very hot like all v-twins do and if you had a drop in oil pressure you would notice a definite drop in performance from all of the friction

When does this light come on? If it only comes on at idle, then your idle speed may be set too low, and the light is flashing to warn of low oil pressure. Continuing to idle with low oil pressure could result in damage to your engine's bearings and pistons, so I would recommend you have a mechanic look at it to be sure.

Sounds silly, but is the gas cap on tight?
I don't have a motorcycle, but have the same problem with a 2000 Pontiac sunfire. Check engine light comes on when the gas cap is loose.
Could be as simple as a censor going bad. Or could be sign of early failure of a major system.

hmmmm, maybe it's the coolant sensor.........lmao!!! but seriously, i have a custom softail myself, ever since i did all the custom work my engine light comes on and off by itself - done it for a few years now. just make sure that there is oil in it and run it! worse comes to worse it blows up and you have an excuse to throw an S&S mill on it!

I believe you would have said oil light if that was what you meant. The ECM is logging a fault code. Chances are it's something simple, as your bike runs ok.

maybe a bad oil pressure sending unit or possibly this happens when idling in traffic or running very hard and its thinning the oil out.have you changed it recently?

you have a oil pressure, coolant ,or some major problem starting, and causing the sensors to flag a code.go and hook it up to a reader and check faults.but check all the levels in the systems
