We were thinking about driving down to the border and either walking over or taking a bus. Which one should we do?

We want to get in and get out kinda thing so we can say we went there. We want to get meal and also do alittle haggling. Can that be done close to the border or have to be closer in the center of town? Is it a walkable distance?

Is the bus trip worth it?

Any recommendations on where to eat or visit on our short time over the border?

I know this is alot of different questions but any information or input with be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

You don't mention your age, so it's hard to say. Personally, even as a young man looking for "fun" I was never impressed much with TJ. The parts I saw were typically, a dirty border town.
North of the border? I highly recommend the 94th Aero Squadron (restaurant) on Balboa between the 163 and the 15.
Seaport Village
Sea World
The Corvette Diner (Far and Grill) up just off of University
Balboa's San Diego Air and Space Musem
Balboa's Car Museum -- right next to the Air Museum
The Air Museum's "Annex" at the north end of Gillespie Field in El Cajon.
The Marine Corp's Air Museum at MCAS(H) Mira Mar -- used to be the home of "Top Gun"
Mission Beach
Pacific Beach
Del Mar Beach
La Jolla Beach
Horton Plaza Downtown off of Broadway
But if your really must go to TJ, take the tolley to the border at San Yasidro and walk over the bridge. DO NOT get in a cab! They'll take you on a couple mile drive when the bridge is all of about 75 yards long.

Go there during the day, I'm not sure about walking or the bus because I drove acroos with a friend from San Diego. But You can get a meal anywhere and you will love it. I personally love the food from the street vendors, but if they look dirty they probably are so be choosy. You'll notice the difference. I would try a few different things from a few different places. I used to live in Mexico and I ate the street food all the time, so don't be scared, you'll miss out if you don't eat it. My mouth waters just thinking about it.

like various different persons stated, Tijuana isn't the nicest, that's no longer sunny beaches and the three Amigos walking round to mariachi song. it isn't ordinary-center poverty and violence and donkey shows and toddlers attempting to promote you gum, inspite of the indisputable fact that it would want to really be some thing to speak about in eire, I guess!! you could take the "trolley", the San Diego ordinary rail, all the way down to the San Ysidro border crossing and walk for the time of for a visit. yet be careful and watch your again amigo! when you're renting a automobile, get Mexican coverage and rigidity previous Tijuana, get far flung from the border and see the authentic Mexico, yet even that's amazingly not ordinary center poverty with human beings living in abode-made shacks contained in the hills (a minimum of it replaced into that way 15 years in the past, I imagine it hasn't gotten a lot extra positive although) yet downtown San Diego is searching that way those days too. i might want to assert pass for it, yet do not pass on my own and do not say we did not provide you with a warning!!

TJ is not a good sample of Mexico, but worth the visit if you have never been to Mexico before.

The easiest way to get there is to take the trolley. It goes right from downtown to the boarder. Then you can just walk across. It is very walkable.

You will not need to exchange money. Dollars will work fine.

If you drive, make sure to have insurance for Mexico. You can buy it at the boarder. I would not recommend driving unless you want to go farther south. This would also be a more interesting trip to go to Ensinada or Roserito Beach. But, it would also be much more time consuming.

If walking take a cab from the border to Zona Rio, its the nicest shopping district. Agree upfront on the fare as taxis are not metered. If you want to have a good meal and good a good mexican drink, whether its beer or hard liquor, go to the "Cantina de Los Remedios" formerly knows as Guadalajara grill. Its in the Zona Rio as well. On the weekends they have Mariachi music going around the tables. Stay away from Revolution (City Historic Center) its a ghetto and a tourist trap. I go there often as I have family there.

When I was down there several years ago, there was a trolley that left the train station in San Diego to go to Tijuana. I am not sure that it is still in service, but when you get to the train station, you would be able to find out. It ran like every 15 minutes or so. Didn't cost much, either.
